Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream Nappy Rash Treatment - 20g

Fungal nappy rash can cause significant discomfort for your baby, appearing as a red, inflamed rash in the nappy area that may spread to surrounding skin folds. This condition occurs when yeast naturally present on the skin multiplies in the warm, moist environment created by nappies. Clotrimazole cream nappy rash treatment provides targeted antifungal action to address the underlying fungal infection causing your baby's discomfort.

This 20g tube contains 1% clotrimazole, an antifungal medicine specifically formulated for treating fungal skin infections in babies and children. The cream helps restore your baby's skin to its healthy state whilst providing gentle care suitable for delicate infant skin.

How This Antifungal Treatment Works

Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called azole antifungals. It works by disrupting the cell walls of fungi and yeasts, preventing them from growing and multiplying on your baby's skin. This action helps clear the infection whilst allowing the affected skin to heal naturally.

The cream penetrates the skin to reach the site of infection, providing direct treatment where it's needed most. Regular application as directed helps maintain therapeutic levels of the active ingredient to ensure effective treatment of the fungal nappy rash.

Suitable for Babies and Young Children

This antifungal cream is specifically indicated for treating fungal nappy rash in babies and young children. It's particularly effective when standard nappy rash treatments haven't resolved the condition, or when the rash shows signs of fungal infection such as satellite spots around the main rash area.

The treatment is suitable for:

  • Babies with confirmed or suspected fungal nappy rash
  • Children experiencing persistent nappy rash that hasn't responded to barrier creams
  • Cases where the rash has spread beyond the nappy area
  • Situations where healthcare professionals have recommended antifungal treatment

You can find this product alongside other baby and toddler healthcare essentials to support your child's wellbeing.

Gentle Formula for Delicate Skin

The cream base is formulated to be gentle on your baby's delicate skin whilst delivering effective antifungal treatment. It spreads easily and absorbs well, making application comfortable for both you and your baby during nappy changes.

The 20g tube size provides sufficient treatment for a typical course whilst being convenient for storage in your changing bag or medicine cabinet. The tube format helps maintain hygiene during application and prevents contamination of the remaining product.

Clinical Suitability and Storage Requirements

This medicine is suitable for use from birth onwards when recommended by a healthcare professional. However, you should always consult your pharmacist or doctor before using any antifungal treatment on babies, particularly those under 12 months of age.

Store the cream below 25°C and keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging, and discard any remaining cream 28 days after first opening the tube to maintain effectiveness and prevent contamination.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Application Instructions for Nappy Rash Treatment

Clean and thoroughly dry your baby's nappy area before applying the cream. Wash your hands before and after application to prevent spreading the infection. Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and gently rub in until absorbed. Ensure you cover all affected skin including any areas where the rash has spread beyond the immediate nappy region.

Treatment Frequency and Duration

Apply the cream two to three times daily, typically at each nappy change where possible. Continue treatment for at least seven days after the rash has completely cleared to prevent recurrence. If you notice no improvement after seven days of treatment, or if the condition worsens, consult your pharmacist or doctor for further advice. Do not exceed the recommended application frequency unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional.
