Strepsils Extra Triple Action Blackcurrant Lozenges for Sore Throat Relief

You can rely on these medicated lozenges to provide targeted relief when you're experiencing throat discomfort. Each lozenge contains two antiseptic ingredients that work locally in your mouth and throat to help reduce bacterial load whilst providing a soothing effect on irritated tissues.

The blackcurrant flavour makes these lozenges more pleasant to use compared to unflavoured alternatives. You'll find them particularly useful during the early stages of throat discomfort when you want to address symptoms before they worsen.

How These Antiseptic Lozenges Work in Your Throat

The active antiseptic ingredients in these lozenges work by reducing the number of bacteria in your mouth and throat area. As you slowly dissolve each lozenge, the antiseptic components are released gradually, allowing them to remain in contact with the affected tissues for an extended period.

This local action helps to create an environment that's less favourable for bacterial growth whilst providing symptomatic relief. The strepsils extra triple action formula combines antiseptic properties with a mild anaesthetic effect to help numb localised discomfort.

Who Can Benefit from These Medicated Throat Lozenges

These lozenges are suitable for adults and children over 6 years of age who are experiencing throat discomfort. You might find them particularly helpful if you're dealing with the early signs of a throat infection or general throat irritation.

The following groups commonly use these lozenges:

  • Adults experiencing bacterial throat infections
  • People with throat irritation from environmental factors
  • Those seeking antiseptic throat treatment alongside other cold and flu remedies
  • Individuals who prefer medicated lozenges over throat sprays

Why Choose Antiseptic Throat Treatment

Antiseptic throat treatments offer a targeted approach to managing throat discomfort by addressing bacterial presence directly at the site of infection. Unlike systemic treatments, these lozenges work locally, which means the active ingredients concentrate where you need them most.

The lozenge format allows for prolonged contact time with affected tissues as you slowly dissolve each one in your mouth. This extended contact period helps maximise the antiseptic effect whilst providing ongoing symptomatic relief throughout the dissolution process.

Storage Requirements and Clinical Considerations

Store these lozenges in a cool, dry place below 25°C and keep them in their original packaging to maintain their effectiveness. You should not exceed the recommended dosage, and if your symptoms persist for more than 3 days or worsen, you should consult your pharmacist or doctor.

These lozenges are not suitable for children under 6 years of age due to the risk of choking and the concentration of active ingredients. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medications, speak to your pharmacist before use.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Recommended Dosage for Adults and Children

Adults and children over 12 years should dissolve one lozenge slowly in the mouth every 2 to 3 hours as required. You should not exceed 12 lozenges in any 24-hour period. Children aged 6 to 12 years should use one lozenge every 4 hours, with a maximum of 6 lozenges in 24 hours.

Allow each lozenge to dissolve completely in your mouth rather than chewing or swallowing it whole. This ensures the antiseptic ingredients have adequate contact time with your throat tissues to provide optimal benefit.

How to Use These Throat Lozenges Effectively

Take the lozenge out of its individual wrapper and place it in your mouth. Move it around occasionally with your tongue to ensure even distribution of the active ingredients throughout your mouth and throat area. You should avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after using a lozenge to allow the antiseptic effect to continue working.

If your symptoms have not improved after 3 days of regular use, or if they worsen at any point, discontinue use and consult your pharmacist or doctor. Do not use these lozenges for longer than 7 days without medical advice.

Potential Side Effects and Safety Information

The most commonly reported side effects are generally mild and relate to local irritation in the mouth or throat area. Some people may experience temporary changes in taste sensation or mild stomach upset if multiple lozenges are used in quick succession.
