OneTouch Verio Test Strips for Accurate Blood Glucose Monitoring

You can monitor your blood glucose levels effectively with these test strips designed specifically for use with OneTouch Verio glucose metres. Each pack contains 50 individual strips that provide reliable readings to help you manage your diabetes condition. The strips work by detecting glucose levels in a small blood sample, giving you results within seconds.

These blood glucose test strips are manufactured to meet strict quality standards and are suitable for regular home monitoring. You can use them as part of your daily diabetes management routine, following the testing schedule recommended by your healthcare provider. The strips are individually wrapped to maintain their accuracy and prevent contamination.

How OneTouch Verio Strips Measure Your Blood Sugar

The test strips contain enzymes that react with glucose in your blood sample to produce an electrical signal. Your OneTouch Verio metre reads this signal and converts it into a blood glucose reading displayed on the screen. You only need a small drop of blood, typically obtained from a fingertip using a lancet device.

The measurement process takes approximately 5 seconds from when you apply the blood sample to when your result appears. The strips automatically draw the blood sample into the testing area through capillary action, so you don't need to apply pressure or worry about getting the right amount of blood on the strip.

Who Should Use These Diabetes Test Strips

These strips are suitable for people with diabetes who need to monitor their blood glucose levels regularly. Your doctor or diabetes nurse will advise you on how often you should test, which may vary depending on your type of diabetes and treatment plan. You can find additional diabetes monitoring supplies to support your daily management routine.

The strips are appropriate for:

  • Adults and children with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
  • People taking insulin who need frequent glucose monitoring
  • Those adjusting their diabetes medication or diet
  • Anyone experiencing symptoms of high or low blood sugar

Why Choose Individually Wrapped Test Strips

Each OneTouch Verio test strips comes individually sealed to protect it from moisture and contamination that could affect accuracy. This packaging method helps maintain the strips' effectiveness throughout their shelf life, even in varying environmental conditions. You can carry individual strips with you without worrying about exposing the entire pack to humidity or temperature changes.

The individual wrapping also makes it easier to keep track of expiry dates and ensures each strip remains sterile until you're ready to use it. This design feature is particularly important for maintaining consistent and reliable glucose readings over time.

Storage Requirements and Shelf Life

You should store your test strips in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep them in their original packaging until you're ready to use them, and check the expiry date before testing. Once opened, individual strips should be used immediately for the most accurate results.

The strips remain effective until their printed expiry date when stored correctly. Avoid storing them in bathrooms or other humid environments, as moisture can damage the testing enzymes and lead to inaccurate readings.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Use Your OneTouch Verio Test Strips

You should wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before testing, then dry them completely. Remove one test strip from its individual wrapper and insert it into your OneTouch Verio metre until you hear a beep or see the blood drop symbol appear on the screen. The metre will automatically turn on and be ready for your blood sample.

Use a lancet device to obtain a small drop of blood from the side of your fingertip. Touch the drop of blood to the narrow channel at the tip of the test strip, and the strip will automatically draw in the sample. Keep your finger in contact with the strip until the metre beeps or shows that it has enough blood for testing.

Reading and Recording Your Results

Your glucose reading will appear on the metre screen within 5 seconds of applying your blood sample. The result will be displayed in mmol/L, which is the standard measurement unit used in the UK. Record your result in your diabetes diary or logbook, along with the time and date of testing, to help you and your healthcare team track your glucose patterns.

You can safely dispose of used test strips in your household waste after testing. Remove the strip from the metre and dispose of the lancet in a sharps container as recommended by your healthcare provider. Clean your hands again after testing and store your metre and remaining strips in a safe place.

Understanding Test Strip Limitations and Accuracy

Like all glucose monitoring systems, OneTouch Verio Test Strips can occasionally produce readings that may not reflect your actual blood glucose level. While these strips are designed for accuracy, various factors can affect results including improper storage, expired strips, or insufficient blood samples. You should be aware of these potential issues when using electrical health and diagnostic equipment for home monitoring.

Most issues with test strips relate to user technique or environmental factors rather than the strips themselves. However, you should be aware of situations that might affect accuracy.

Factors that may affect test strip accuracy include:

  • Using expired or damaged test strips
  • Insufficient blood sample on the strip
  • Testing with dirty or wet hands
  • Extreme temperatures during storage or use
  • Altitude changes affecting the metre calibration
  • Contamination of the test strip before use
  • Using strips that don't match your metre model
  • Applying blood sample to the wrong area of the strip
  • Moving the strip during the testing process
  • Using a blood sample that has begun to clot
  • Testing immediately after eating or exercising without following guidelines
  • Dehydration affecting blood consistency

If you experience these or any other issues with your test results, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
