Freestyle Libre 2 Plus Sensor for Continuous Glucose Monitoring

The Freestyle Libre 2 Plus Sensor is a continuous glucose monitoring system designed to help you manage your diabetes more effectively. This small, waterproof sensor attaches to the back of your upper arm and continuously measures glucose levels in your tissue fluid for up to 14 days. You can check your glucose readings, trends, and patterns by scanning the sensor with a compatible reader or smartphone app.

This Abbott diabetes sensor eliminates the need for routine finger prick blood tests, providing you with real-time glucose information whenever you need it. The system also includes optional alarms to alert you when your glucose levels are too high or too low, helping you take action before levels become dangerous.

How the Continuous Glucose Monitoring System Works

The sensor uses a thin, flexible filament that sits just under your skin to measure glucose in your interstitial fluid. When you scan the sensor with your reader or compatible smartphone, it displays your current glucose level, an 8-hour history graph, and a trend arrow showing whether your levels are rising, falling, or staying steady.

The system stores up to 8 hours of glucose data, so even if you don't scan regularly, you won't lose important information about your glucose patterns. This comprehensive diabetes monitoring approach helps you understand how food, exercise, medication, and other factors affect your glucose levels throughout the day.

Who Should Use This Blood Glucose Monitor

This continuous glucose monitoring system is suitable for adults and children aged 4 years and over with diabetes mellitus. It's particularly beneficial if you need frequent glucose monitoring or want to reduce the number of finger prick tests you perform daily.

The sensor is ideal for people who:

  • Want to see glucose trends and patterns throughout the day
  • Need to monitor glucose levels during exercise or sleep
  • Wish to reduce routine finger prick testing
  • Require detailed glucose data to optimise their diabetes management

Why Choose Abbott's Sensor Technology

Abbott's sensor technology provides accurate glucose readings that correlate well with blood glucose measurements. The sensor is designed to be discreet and comfortable to wear, with a low-profile design that fits under clothing. It's also water-resistant, allowing you to shower, swim, and exercise while wearing it.

The system's factory calibration means you don't need to perform finger prick calibrations, making it more convenient than some other continuous glucose monitoring systems. The 14-day wear time also means fewer sensor changes compared to shorter-duration alternatives.

Clinical Accuracy and Storage Requirements

Clinical studies have demonstrated that the Freestyle Libre 2 Plus Sensor provides clinically accurate glucose readings across the full measurement range. The sensor should be stored at room temperature and applied using the provided applicator following the manufacturer's instructions.

Each sensor is individually packaged and sterile until opened. Once applied, the sensor begins working immediately and will provide continuous glucose monitoring for up to 14 days before requiring replacement.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply Your Diabetes Sensor

Clean the back of your upper arm with an alcohol wipe and allow it to dry completely. Remove the sensor pack from its packaging and unscrew the cap from the sensor applicator. Place the applicator firmly against your skin and press down hard in one swift motion to insert the sensor. The applicator will click when the sensor is properly inserted.

Remove the applicator by lifting it straight up, leaving the sensor adhered to your skin. The sensor will start working immediately and you can begin scanning after one hour. Make sure the sensor is firmly attached and the adhesive edges are smooth against your skin.

Scanning and Reading Instructions

To get a glucose reading, hold your compatible reader or smartphone within 4cm of the sensor and scan. The scan takes about one second and will display your current glucose level, an 8-hour history graph, and a trend arrow. You can scan as often as you like - there are no limits to the number of scans per day.

For the most accurate readings, scan the sensor at least once every 8 hours to ensure continuous data collection. If you don't scan within 8 hours, you may lose some glucose history data, though the sensor will continue monitoring your levels.
