Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test Lateral Flow Test for COVID-19 Detection

You can detect COVID-19 antigens quickly and conveniently at home with this self-testing kit. The Flowflex antigen rapid test provides results within 15 minutes, helping you make informed decisions about your health and the safety of others around you.

This lateral flow test uses a simple nasal swab method to detect SARS-CoV-2 antigens. The test is designed for use by individuals aged 2 years and over, making it suitable for family testing when symptoms arise or routine screening is needed.

How the Antigen Detection Process Works

The test detects specific proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 virus present in your nasal secretions. When you take a nasal swab sample and apply it to the test device, the sample moves along the test strip where it encounters antibodies that bind to viral antigens if present.

Two lines appearing on the test strip indicate a positive result, whilst one line indicates a negative result. The control line must always appear for the test to be considered valid, ensuring the test has worked correctly.

Who Should Use This Self-Testing Kit

This covid test kit is suitable for anyone aged 2 years and over who needs to check for COVID-19 infection. You might choose to use this test if you develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or need regular testing for work, travel, or social activities.

The test is particularly useful for:

  • Individuals experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, or loss of taste and smell
  • People who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive
  • Those requiring regular testing for workplace or educational requirements
  • Families wanting convenient home testing options alongside other first aid supplies

Why Choose Rapid Antigen Testing

Antigen tests offer the advantage of speed, providing results within 15 minutes compared to laboratory PCR tests which can take several days. This quick turnaround time allows you to take immediate action if you test positive, such as self-isolating to prevent transmission to others.

The test's sensitivity is highest when viral loads are at their peak, typically when you are most infectious. This makes antigen rapid tests particularly valuable for identifying individuals who pose the greatest transmission risk to their communities.

Storage Requirements and Test Validity

You should store your flowflex test at room temperature between 2°C and 30°C, avoiding direct sunlight and moisture. Each test kit contains all necessary components including the test device, extraction buffer, and sterile swab for sample collection.

The test maintains its accuracy when stored correctly and used before the expiry date printed on the packaging. Always check the expiry date before use and ensure the test components appear undamaged before proceeding with testing.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Perform Your COVID-19 Test

You should wash your hands thoroughly before handling the test components. Remove the test device from its sealed pouch and place it on a flat, clean surface. Take the sterile swab and insert it into your nostril, rotating it gently against the nasal wall for 10-15 seconds before repeating in the other nostril.

Insert the swab into the extraction buffer tube and rotate it for 10 seconds whilst pressing the sides of the tube to extract the sample. Squeeze 4 drops of the sample onto the specimen well of the test device and wait exactly 15 minutes for results to develop.

Reading and Interpreting Your Test Results

You should read your results after exactly 15 minutes - reading before or after this time may give inaccurate results. A positive result shows two coloured lines appearing in both the control and test regions, regardless of how faint the test line appears. A negative result shows only one coloured line in the control region.

If no control line appears, the test is invalid and you should repeat the test with a new kit. You should not interpret results after 20 minutes as they may not be accurate beyond this timeframe.

Understanding Potential Test Limitations

Like all medicines, Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test Lateral Flow Self-Testing can have limitations, although most people can use it safely. The test may occasionally produce false negative or false positive results, particularly when used incorrectly or when viral loads are very low. You can find additional health monitoring options in our electrical health and diagnostic collection.

The most common limitations you might encounter include reduced sensitivity in asymptomatic individuals or those in very early stages of infection.

  • False negative results when viral load is below detection threshold
  • False positive results due to cross-reactivity with other substances
  • Incorrect results from improper sample collection technique
  • Invalid results from using expired or damaged test components
  • Reduced accuracy in children under 2 years of age
  • Interference from certain nasal medications or treatments
  • Temperature-related performance issues if stored incorrectly
  • User error in following testing instructions precisely
  • Timing errors in reading results outside the 15-20 minute window
  • Sample contamination affecting test accuracy

If you experience these or any other issues with your test results, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
