Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test Lateral Flow Self

The Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test provides a convenient way to detect COVID-19 antigens at home. This lateral flow test delivers results within 15 minutes, allowing you to make informed decisions about your health and social interactions. The test detects specific proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 virus in nasal samples.

Each test kit contains all necessary components for self-testing, including the test cassette, extraction buffer, and detailed instructions. The test is designed for single use and provides qualitative results to indicate the presence or absence of COVID-19 antigens.

How the Antigen Test Works

You collect a nasal sample using the provided swab, then mix it with the extraction buffer solution. The processed sample is applied to the test cassette, where it flows across a membrane containing antibodies specific to COVID-19 antigens. If viral proteins are present, they bind to these antibodies, creating visible lines on the test window.

The test uses lateral flow immunoassay technology, which is the same principle used in many rapid diagnostic tests. Results appear as coloured lines, with a control line confirming the test has worked correctly and a test line indicating a positive result.

Who Should Use This Self Test

This rapid test is suitable for adults and children over 2 years of age who wish to test for COVID-19 at home. It's particularly useful for people with symptoms, those who have been exposed to COVID-19, or individuals who need regular testing for work or travel purposes. For comprehensive health monitoring, you might also consider our electrical health and diagnostic range.

The test is appropriate for:

  • Symptomatic individuals experiencing fever, cough, or loss of taste/smell
  • Asymptomatic people who have been in close contact with confirmed cases
  • Those requiring regular testing for workplace or educational settings
  • Individuals planning to visit vulnerable family members or friends

Why Choose Home Testing

Home testing offers privacy and convenience, allowing you to test at your own pace without visiting a testing centre. The Flowflex test provides reliable results that can help you make decisions about isolation, seeking medical care, or informing close contacts about potential exposure.

Self-testing reduces the burden on healthcare services whilst giving you immediate access to important health information. The test's accuracy is comparable to other lateral flow tests when used correctly, making it a practical choice for regular monitoring.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store the test kit at room temperature between 2°C and 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze the components or expose them to extreme temperatures, as this may affect test performance. Check the expiry date before use and do not use expired tests.

Each test should be used immediately after opening the sealed pouch. The extraction buffer should appear clear and colourless - do not use if the solution appears cloudy or discoloured. Keep all components away from children when not in use.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Perform Your COVID Test

Wash your hands thoroughly before starting and ensure you have a clean, flat surface to work on. Remove all components from the kit and check the expiry date. Allow the test to reach room temperature if it has been stored in a cool place.

Insert the swab into one nostril until you feel resistance, then rotate gently for 10-15 seconds. Repeat this process in the other nostril using the same swab. Place the swab into the extraction buffer tube and rotate for 15 seconds, then squeeze the tube sides to extract liquid from the swab.

Reading Your Test Results

Apply 2-3 drops of the extracted sample to the specimen well on the test cassette. Wait exactly 15 minutes before reading the results - do not read results after 30 minutes as they may be inaccurate.

A single line next to 'C' indicates a negative result, whilst lines next to both 'C' and 'T' indicate a positive result. If no control line appears, the test is invalid and should be repeated with a new kit. Take a photograph of your result for your records before disposing of the test safely.

Understanding Potential Test Limitations

Like all medicines and diagnostic tests, the Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test can have limitations, although most people will obtain reliable results when used correctly. The test may occasionally produce false negative or false positive results, particularly if not performed according to the instructions. If you're experiencing symptoms but receive a negative result, consider seeking cold and flu remedies or consulting your healthcare provider.

The most common issues occur when the test is not performed correctly or when viral levels are too low to detect. This can happen in the very early stages of infection or when symptoms are mild.

Potential limitations include:

  • False negative results in early infection stages
  • Reduced sensitivity compared to PCR tests
  • Invalid results if instructions are not followed correctly
  • False positive results due to cross-contamination
  • Difficulty reading results in poor lighting conditions
  • Reduced accuracy if test components are damaged
  • Temperature sensitivity affecting test performance
  • Expired tests may give unreliable results
  • Inadequate sample collection reducing test sensitivity
  • Interference from certain medications or nasal treatments

If you experience these or any other issues with your test results, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
