Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test Lateral Flow Self

The Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test provides a convenient way to detect COVID-19 antigens at home. This lateral flow test delivers results within 15 minutes, allowing you to make informed decisions about your health and social interactions. The test detects specific proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 virus in nasal samples.

Each test kit contains all necessary components for self-testing, including the test cassette, extraction buffer, and detailed instructions. The test is designed for single use and should be stored at room temperature until needed.

How the Antigen Test Works

You collect a nasal sample using the provided swab, then mix it with the extraction buffer solution. The processed sample is applied to the test cassette, where it flows across a membrane containing antibodies that bind to COVID-19 antigens if present.

Results appear as coloured lines on the test window. A control line confirms the test is working correctly, whilst a test line indicates the presence of COVID-19 antigens. The absence of a test line suggests no detectable antigens in your sample.

Who Should Use This Self Test

This rapid test is suitable for adults and children over 2 years of age who wish to test for COVID-19 at home. It's particularly useful for routine screening before social gatherings, travel, or when experiencing symptoms. For comprehensive health monitoring, you might also consider our electrical health and diagnostic range.

The test is appropriate for:

  • Individuals with COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, or loss of taste/smell
  • People who have been in contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases
  • Those requiring testing for travel or workplace requirements
  • Regular screening as part of infection control measures

Accurate Results You Can Trust

The Flowflex test has undergone clinical validation to ensure reliable performance. The test demonstrates high specificity, meaning it accurately identifies negative samples and reduces false positive results. However, like all antigen tests, it may be less sensitive than PCR tests, particularly in asymptomatic individuals or those with low viral loads.

If you receive a positive result, you should isolate immediately and consider confirmatory testing. Negative results don't completely rule out infection, especially if you have symptoms or known exposure to COVID-19.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store the test kit at temperatures between 2°C and 30°C in a dry location away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze the components or expose them to excessive heat. Check the expiry date before use, as expired tests may not provide accurate results.

Remove the test from its packaging only when ready to perform the test. Once opened, use the test immediately and do not reuse any components. Dispose of used materials according to local waste disposal guidelines.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Perform Your COVID Test

Wash your hands thoroughly before starting the test. Remove all components from the packaging and place them on a clean, flat surface. Allow the test to reach room temperature if it has been stored in a cool location.

Insert the swab into one nostril until you feel resistance, then rotate gently for 10-15 seconds. Repeat this process in the other nostril using the same swab. Insert the swab into the extraction buffer tube and rotate for 10 seconds, then squeeze the tube sides to extract the liquid.

Reading Your Test Results

Apply exactly 2-3 drops of the extracted sample to the specimen well on the test cassette. Wait 15 minutes before reading the results - do not read results after 30 minutes as they may be inaccurate.

A single line at 'C' indicates a negative result, whilst lines at both 'C' and 'T' indicate a positive result. If no line appears at 'C', the test is invalid and should be repeated with a new kit. Take a photograph of your result for your records if needed.

Understanding Potential Test Limitations

Like all medicines and medical devices, the Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test can have limitations, although most people use it without problems. The test may occasionally produce false results due to various factors including sample collection technique or timing of testing. Consider exploring our first aid collection for additional health monitoring supplies.

The most common issues include incorrect sample collection, reading results outside the specified time window, or using expired test kits. Environmental factors such as extreme temperatures can also affect test performance.

Potential limitations may include:

  • False negative results in early infection stages
  • Reduced sensitivity in asymptomatic individuals
  • False positive results due to cross-reactivity
  • Invalid results from insufficient sample collection
  • Incorrect interpretation of faint test lines
  • Reduced accuracy if test components are damaged
  • Temperature-related performance variations
  • User error in following instructions
  • Interference from certain medications or substances
  • Reduced effectiveness near expiry date
  • Sample contamination affecting results
  • Timing errors in result interpretation

If you experience these or any other issues with your test results, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
