Flowflex Antigen Rapid Covid Lateral Flow Test

The Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test provides reliable detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigens from nasal swab samples. This covid lateral flow test delivers results within 15 minutes, making it suitable for home use when you need quick COVID-19 detection. The test uses immunochromatographic technology to identify viral proteins present in respiratory samples.

Each test kit contains all necessary components for sample collection and analysis. The device meets CE marking requirements and has been validated for self-testing purposes. You can use this rapid antigen test to check your COVID-19 status before social gatherings, travel, or when experiencing symptoms.

How the Antigen Detection Works

The test detects nucleocapsid proteins from SARS-CoV-2 virus particles in your nasal secretions. When you insert the processed sample into the test device, specific antibodies bind to any viral antigens present. This binding reaction produces visible lines on the test strip within the specified timeframe.

The lateral flow technology uses capillary action to move your sample across the test membrane. A control line always appears to confirm the test is working correctly, while a test line appears only when viral antigens are detected above the threshold level.

Who Should Use This Test Kit

This covid test kit suits adults and children over 2 years old who need rapid COVID-19 screening. You might consider testing if you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, have been exposed to someone with the virus, or need confirmation before attending events. The test is particularly useful for regular screening in households, workplaces, or educational settings.

The test is appropriate for:

  • Individuals with COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, or loss of taste/smell
  • People who have been in close contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases
  • Those requiring negative test results for travel or event attendance
  • Regular screening programmes in high-risk environments

Accuracy and Reliability Features

The Flowflex test demonstrates high specificity for SARS-CoV-2 antigens, reducing the likelihood of false positive results. The test performs most accurately when viral loads are higher, typically during the early stages of infection when symptoms are present. However, like all rapid antigen tests, it may not detect very low levels of virus that PCR tests might identify.

The test includes built-in quality controls to ensure proper function. The control line must appear for results to be valid, and you should repeat the test if no control line develops. Store tests at room temperature and check expiry dates before use to maintain accuracy.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store your lateral flow test kit at temperatures between 2°C and 30°C in a dry location away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze the components or expose them to excessive heat, as this may affect test performance. Each kit remains stable until the expiry date printed on the packaging when stored correctly.

Remove the test from its sealed pouch only when ready to use. Once opened, complete the test within one hour to ensure accurate results. Dispose of used tests in household waste, following local guidelines for medical waste disposal.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Perform Your COVID Test

Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the test components. Remove the test device from its sealed pouch and place it on a flat, clean surface. Insert the provided swab into one nostril until you feel slight resistance, then rotate the swab several times against the nasal wall. Repeat this process in the other nostril using the same swab.

Place the swab into the extraction tube containing the buffer solution. Rotate the swab at least 10 times while pressing it against the tube sides to release the sample. Squeeze the tube sides to extract liquid from the swab, then dispose of the swab safely.

Reading and Interpreting Results

Add exactly 4 drops of the extracted sample to the specimen well on the test device. Set a timer for 15 minutes and read results only after this time has elapsed. Do not interpret results after 30 minutes as they may become unreliable.

A single line at the control position indicates a negative result, meaning no viral antigens were detected. Two lines at both control and test positions indicate a positive result, suggesting current COVID-19 infection. If no control line appears, the test is invalid and you should repeat with a new kit. Contact your healthcare provider if you receive a positive result or have concerns about your symptoms.

Understanding Test Limitations and Considerations

Like all medicines and medical devices, the Flowflex COVID test can have limitations, although most people use it without problems. The test may occasionally produce false negative results, particularly when viral loads are very low or if the sample collection was inadequate. You should be aware of our cold and flu treatments if you continue experiencing symptoms despite negative test results.

The most common issues relate to improper sample collection or timing errors rather than true side effects. Some people may experience mild nasal discomfort during swab insertion, which typically resolves quickly.

Potential testing issues include:

  • Mild nasal irritation from swab insertion
  • False negative results with low viral loads
  • Invalid results from improper sample handling
  • Difficulty interpreting faint test lines
  • Anxiety or stress related to testing process
  • Temporary nasal discomfort after swabbing
  • Confusion about timing requirements
  • Concerns about test accuracy
  • Worry about positive results
  • Difficulty with sample collection technique

If you experience these or any other concerns with testing, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
