First Response Early Pregnancy Test for Reliable Detection

You can detect pregnancy earlier with this home testing kit that provides results from the first day of your missed period. The test works by measuring human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels in your urine, a hormone produced during pregnancy. This early pregnancy test offers over 99% accuracy when used from the day of your expected period.

The test features a simple design with clear result windows that display either one line for not pregnant or two lines for pregnant. You receive results within three minutes of testing, giving you quick and private confirmation in the comfort of your own home.

How the First Response Test Detects Pregnancy Hormones

The test strip contains antibodies that specifically bind to hCG hormone present in pregnant women's urine. When you urinate on the test stick, the sample travels along the strip by capillary action. If hCG is present, it binds to the antibodies and creates a visible line in the test window.

The control line always appears to confirm the test is working properly. A second line in the result window indicates pregnancy, whilst only the control line appearing means the test is negative. The sensitivity of this pregnancy test allows detection of hCG levels as low as 25 mIU/ml.

Who Should Use This Home Pregnancy Test

This test suits women who suspect they may be pregnant and want early confirmation. You can use it if you have missed your period, experienced early pregnancy symptoms, or need to confirm pregnancy for medical reasons. The test is particularly useful for women with regular menstrual cycles who can accurately predict their expected period date.

The test is appropriate for:

  • Women trying to conceive who want early detection
  • Those with missed or late periods
  • Women experiencing potential pregnancy symptoms
  • Anyone requiring private, at-home pregnancy confirmation

If you're planning a family or managing your reproductive health, you might also find our women's health products helpful for ongoing wellness support.

Why Choose First Response for Early Detection

First Response tests are designed with enhanced sensitivity to detect lower levels of pregnancy hormone compared to many standard tests. This increased sensitivity means you can test up to six days before your missed period, though accuracy improves closer to your expected period date.

The ergonomic design includes a wide tip for easier sample collection and a comfortable grip handle. The result windows are clearly marked and easy to read, reducing confusion when interpreting results. Each test is individually wrapped to maintain sterility and prevent contamination.

Storage Requirements and Test Validity

Store your pregnancy test at room temperature between 2°C and 30°C in a dry location away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze the test or expose it to excessive heat, as this can affect accuracy. Check the expiration date before use, as expired tests may give unreliable results.

Each test remains effective until the printed expiry date when stored correctly. Remove the test from its foil wrapper only when ready to use. If the wrapper is damaged or the test appears discoloured, do not use it and obtain a replacement.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Perform Your Pregnancy Test

Remove the test from its foil wrapper and remove the cap to expose the absorbent tip. Hold the test by the thumb grip, pointing the absorbent tip downward. Place the tip in your urine stream for five seconds, ensuring the entire absorbent tip is saturated. Alternatively, you can collect urine in a clean container and dip the tip for five seconds.

Replace the cap and lay the test flat on a clean, dry surface with the result windows facing up. Wait three minutes for results to appear. Do not read results after ten minutes as they may not be accurate.

When to Test for Optimal Accuracy

For most accurate results, test with your first morning urine when hCG concentrations are highest. You can test any time of day, but morning urine typically provides the most reliable results, especially when testing early. If testing before your missed period, use first morning urine to maximise detection chances.

Avoid drinking excessive fluids before testing as this can dilute your urine and potentially affect results. If you receive a negative result but still suspect pregnancy, wait a few days and test again, as hCG levels double approximately every 48-72 hours in early pregnancy.

Understanding Pregnancy Test Limitations and Considerations

Like all medicines, First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test can have limitations, although most users obtain accurate results when following instructions correctly. While rare, certain medical conditions and medications can affect test accuracy.

False results may occur due to various factors including testing too early, diluted urine, or certain medical conditions. Some medications containing hCG or fertility treatments may also influence results. If you're managing other health conditions, our vitamins and supplements range can support your overall wellness during this time.

Factors that may affect test accuracy include:

  • Testing too early before sufficient hCG levels develop
  • Diluted urine from excessive fluid intake
  • Expired or improperly stored tests
  • Certain fertility medications containing hCG
  • Recent pregnancy loss or miscarriage
  • Rare medical conditions affecting hCG production
  • Ectopic pregnancy which may produce lower hCG levels
  • Very early pregnancy where hCG levels fluctuate
  • Improper test technique or timing
  • Evaporation lines appearing after the recommended reading time
  • Chemical pregnancy resulting in very early pregnancy loss
  • Ovarian cysts or other reproductive system conditions

If you experience these or any other concerns about your results, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
