Dexcom ONE Sensor 3-Pack for Continuous Glucose Monitoring

The Dexcom ONE sensor provides real-time glucose readings for people with diabetes who need continuous monitoring. This 3-pack contains three individual sensors, each designed to be worn for up to 10 days. The sensor works by measuring glucose levels in your interstitial fluid through a small, flexible filament that sits just under your skin.

Each sensor connects wirelessly to the Dexcom ONE app on your smartphone, delivering glucose readings every minute without the need for routine fingerstick calibrations. The system alerts you to glucose trends and patterns, helping you make informed decisions about your diabetes management alongside our comprehensive diabetes monitoring range.

How the Continuous Glucose Monitor Works

The Dexcom ONE sensor uses a thin glucose oxidase-coated wire that measures glucose in the tissue fluid beneath your skin. This measurement correlates closely with blood glucose levels, providing you with continuous data about your glucose trends and direction.

The sensor transmits readings to your compatible smartphone every minute, creating a comprehensive picture of your glucose patterns throughout the day and night. The system provides customisable alerts for high and low glucose levels, helping you respond quickly to changes in your condition.

Who Should Consider This Glucose Monitoring System

The Dexcom ONE sensor is suitable for people with diabetes aged 2 years and older who require intensive glucose monitoring. It's particularly beneficial for those who experience frequent glucose fluctuations or have difficulty recognising hypoglycaemic episodes.

This continuous glucose monitor may be appropriate if you:

  • Take multiple daily insulin injections or use an insulin pump
  • Have a history of severe hypoglycaemia or hypoglycaemia unawareness
  • Need detailed glucose data to optimise your diabetes management
  • Want to reduce the frequency of fingerstick blood glucose tests

Benefits of Real-Time Glucose Data

Continuous glucose monitoring provides insights that traditional blood glucose meters cannot offer. You can see not just your current glucose level, but also the direction and rate of change, helping you anticipate and prevent dangerous highs and lows.

The system's trend arrows and customisable alerts enable proactive diabetes management. You can identify patterns related to food, exercise, stress, and sleep, allowing you and your healthcare team to make more informed treatment adjustments.

Sensor Application and Wear Duration

Each Dexcom ONE sensor is applied using the provided applicator, which inserts the sensor quickly and with minimal discomfort. The sensor adheres to your skin with a strong adhesive patch designed to stay in place during daily activities, including showering and light exercise.

The sensor provides accurate readings for up to 10 days before requiring replacement. During this period, the system requires no fingerstick calibrations, though you should still use traditional blood glucose testing to confirm readings before making treatment decisions, especially during the first 24 hours of wear.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply Your Dexcom ONE Sensor

Before applying the sensor, wash your hands thoroughly and clean the application site with an alcohol wipe. Choose a location on the back of your upper arm that is at least 7.5cm away from any insulin injection sites. Allow the area to dry completely before proceeding with sensor insertion.

Remove the sensor from its packaging and use the provided applicator to insert it according to the step-by-step instructions included in the pack. Press the applicator firmly against your skin and push the button to insert the sensor. The adhesive patch should lie flat against your skin with no air bubbles or lifted edges.

Connecting to Your Smartphone App

After successful sensor insertion, download the Dexcom ONE app to your compatible smartphone. Follow the app's pairing instructions to connect your new sensor, which typically takes 10-15 minutes. The sensor requires a 60-minute warm-up period before providing glucose readings.

Once active, your sensor will automatically send glucose readings to your phone every minute. Set up your personalised high and low glucose alerts according to your healthcare provider's recommendations. The sensor will continue providing readings for up to 10 days before requiring replacement with a new sensor from your 3-pack.

Potential Side Effects and Skin Reactions

Like all medical devices, the Dexcom ONE sensor can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most side effects are related to skin reactions at the sensor insertion site and are generally mild and temporary. If you have sensitive skin or known adhesive allergies, discuss this with your healthcare provider before using continuous glucose monitoring from our electrical health and diagnostic collection.

The most commonly reported side effects include skin irritation, redness, and itching around the sensor adhesive. These reactions typically resolve within a few days of sensor removal.

Known side effects may include:

  • Skin redness or irritation at the insertion site
  • Itching or burning sensation under the adhesive patch
  • Allergic contact dermatitis from adhesive materials
  • Minor bleeding or bruising at the insertion point
  • Skin discolouration that may persist after sensor removal
  • Raised bumps or welts around the sensor area
  • Dry or flaky skin after adhesive removal
  • Temporary scarring at frequently used insertion sites
  • Infection at the insertion site (rare)
  • Pain or tenderness during sensor wear

If you experience these or any other side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
