COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Self Test Kit - Reliable Home Testing

You can now test for COVID-19 from the comfort of your home with this lateral flow test. This rapid antigen test detects the presence of SARS-CoV-2 antigens in nasal samples, providing results within 15-20 minutes. The test is designed for single use and comes with all necessary components for accurate self-testing.

This covid test kit uses established lateral flow technology that has been widely validated for detecting active COVID-19 infections. The test works by identifying specific proteins from the coronavirus when present in sufficient quantities in your nasal secretions.

How the Rapid Antigen Test Works

The test uses a nasal swab to collect a sample from both nostrils. You then mix this sample with the provided extraction solution and apply drops to the test cassette. The liquid moves across the test strip, and if COVID-19 antigens are present, coloured lines will appear to indicate a positive result.

Results appear within 15-20 minutes, with two lines indicating a positive result and one line showing a negative result. The test includes a control line that must appear for the test to be considered valid, ensuring the test has worked correctly.

Who Should Use This COVID Self Test

This test is suitable for adults and children over 2 years of age who wish to check for active COVID-19 infection. It's particularly useful if you have symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive. Many people also use these tests before visiting vulnerable relatives or attending social gatherings.

The test is most effective when used by people with symptoms, as it detects higher viral loads more reliably. Consider using this test if you experience:

  • New continuous cough or fever
  • Loss or change in sense of smell or taste
  • Sore throat, headache, or fatigue
  • Runny nose or congestion

For comprehensive health monitoring alongside your vitamins and supplements, regular testing can help you make informed decisions about your daily activities and protect those around you.

Understanding Test Accuracy and Limitations

Rapid antigen tests are most accurate when viral loads are higher, typically when you have symptoms. The test may not detect very early infections or cases with low viral loads. A negative result doesn't completely rule out COVID-19, especially if you have symptoms or known exposure.

If you test negative but still have symptoms, consider repeating the test after 24-48 hours or seeking a PCR test for confirmation. Positive results are generally reliable and indicate you should isolate and follow current government guidance.

Storage and Shelf Life Information

Store the test kit at room temperature between 2°C and 30°C. Do not freeze the components or expose them to direct sunlight. Check the expiry date before use, as expired tests may give inaccurate results. The test should be used within 30 minutes of opening the foil pouch.

Keep the test kit in its original packaging until ready to use. All components should be at room temperature before testing for optimal accuracy.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Perform Your COVID-19 Test

Wash your hands thoroughly before starting. Remove all components from the package and ensure they are at room temperature. Insert the swab into one nostril until you feel resistance, then rotate gently for 10-15 seconds. Repeat this process in the other nostril using the same swab.

Place the swab into the extraction tube and rotate it for 15 seconds while pressing the sides of the tube. Remove the swab while squeezing the tube to extract as much liquid as possible. Attach the dropper cap to the tube.

Reading Your Test Results

Place the test cassette on a flat surface and add exactly 2 drops of the extracted sample to the specimen well marked 'S'. Wait 15-20 minutes before reading the results. Do not read results after 30 minutes as they may be inaccurate.

A single line at 'C' indicates a negative result. Two lines at both 'C' and 'T' indicate a positive result, regardless of how faint the 'T' line appears. If no line appears at 'C', the test is invalid and should be repeated with a new kit.

Potential Issues When Using COVID Test Kits

Like all medical tests, COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Self Test Kit can have limitations and potential issues, although most people can use them without problems. The test may occasionally produce false results due to user error, expired components, or individual biological factors. For additional health support during illness, you may want to explore our cold and flu remedies to help manage symptoms.

The most common issues include incorrect sample collection, using expired tests, or misreading results. Some people may experience minor discomfort during nasal swabbing.

Potential issues you might encounter include:

  • False negative results, especially with low viral loads
  • False positive results, though these are less common
  • Invalid test results due to insufficient sample
  • Mild nasal discomfort during swabbing
  • Difficulty interpreting faint lines
  • Test failure due to damaged components
  • Incorrect timing affecting accuracy
  • Cross-contamination between samples
  • Allergic reaction to test materials (very rare)
  • Nosebleed from overly vigorous swabbing
  • Anxiety about performing the test correctly
  • Confusion about isolation requirements following results

If you experience these or any other issues, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
