Braun BST200EE TempleSwipe Forehead Thermometer

The Braun BST200EE TempleSwipe uses infrared technology to measure your body temperature by scanning across your forehead. This forehead thermometer provides readings in seconds without requiring contact with mucous membranes, making it suitable for use on sleeping children and adults.

This digital thermometer displays results on a clear LCD screen and stores previous readings for temperature tracking. The device operates on battery power and includes automatic shut-off to preserve battery life.

How Temple Scanning Technology Works

The TempleSwipe measures the infrared heat naturally emitted by your temporal artery, which runs across your forehead. You gently sweep the thermometer across your forehead from one temple to the other whilst holding the scan button.

The infrared sensor captures multiple temperature readings during the sweep and calculates your core body temperature. This temple thermometer method correlates well with core body temperature as the temporal artery is close to the heart and receives constant blood flow.

Who Can Use This Baby Thermometer

This infrared thermometer is suitable for all ages, from newborn babies to adults. It's particularly useful for parents monitoring their children's temperature, as it won't disturb sleeping babies or cause discomfort to unwell children.

The device is ideal for:

  • Parents monitoring babies and toddlers
  • Healthcare professionals requiring quick temperature checks
  • Elderly individuals who find oral thermometers difficult to use
  • Anyone preferring non-invasive temperature measurement

You can find this thermometer alongside other essential monitoring equipment in our Baby and Toddler collection.

Why Choose Non-Contact Temperature Measurement

Non-contact temperature measurement reduces the risk of cross-contamination between family members, as the thermometer doesn't need to touch the skin or enter body cavities. This makes it more hygienic than traditional oral or rectal thermometers.

The quick measurement time means less distress for unwell children and allows for frequent monitoring without discomfort. The gentle scanning motion is less intrusive than other thermometer types.

Storage and Battery Requirements

Store your digital thermometer in a clean, dry place at room temperature. Extreme temperatures can affect the accuracy of infrared sensors, so avoid leaving the device in very hot or cold environments.

The thermometer requires batteries for operation. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate readings. Clean the sensor lens regularly with a soft, dry cloth to maintain measurement accuracy.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Take Temperature Readings

Before taking a measurement, ensure the person has been in a stable environment for at least 15 minutes. Remove any hair, sweat, or cosmetics from the forehead area. Press and hold the scan button whilst gently sweeping the thermometer across the forehead from one temple to the other in a straight line.

Keep the thermometer in contact with the skin throughout the sweep and maintain steady pressure. Release the scan button when you reach the opposite temple. The temperature reading will appear on the display within seconds.

When to Measure Body Temperature

Take temperature measurements when the person is at rest and hasn't recently exercised, bathed, or been exposed to extreme temperatures. These activities can temporarily affect skin temperature and lead to inaccurate readings.

For consistent monitoring, take readings at the same time of day when possible. Body temperature naturally fluctuates throughout the day, typically being lowest in the early morning and highest in the late afternoon or evening.

Understanding Temperature Measurement Limitations

Like all medicines, the Braun BST200EE TempleSwipe Forehead Thermometer can have limitations in certain circumstances, although most users will obtain accurate readings. Environmental factors and user technique can occasionally affect measurement accuracy. You can find additional health monitoring tools in our First Aid collection for comprehensive health management.

Factors that may affect reading accuracy include excessive sweating, recent physical activity, or ambient temperature extremes. Incorrect scanning technique or dirty sensor lenses can also impact results.

Situations that may affect accuracy include:

  • Excessive perspiration on the forehead
  • Recent exposure to very hot or cold environments
  • Scanning too quickly or slowly across the forehead
  • Hair or cosmetics blocking the sensor path
  • Dirty or damaged sensor lens
  • Low battery affecting device performance
  • Taking measurements immediately after physical activity
  • Ambient room temperature below 16°C or above 35°C
  • Scanning over scars, wounds, or skin abnormalities
  • Device not calibrated to room temperature before use
  • Incorrect angle or distance from the forehead
  • Rapid successive measurements without allowing device reset time

If you experience these or any other issues affecting measurement accuracy, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting device issues please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
