Piriteze Cetirizine Tablets for Allergy Relief

How Piriteze Works to Control Allergic Reactions

Piriteze contains cetirizine hydrochloride, an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine in your body. When you encounter allergens like pollen, dust mites, or pet dander, your immune system releases histamine, which causes the uncomfortable symptoms of allergic reactions. By blocking histamine receptors, cetirizine tablets help prevent and reduce these symptoms effectively.

You can take Piriteze to manage various allergic conditions throughout the year. The medication works within one hour of taking it and provides relief that lasts up to 24 hours. This makes it suitable for both seasonal allergies like hay fever and perennial allergies that occur year-round.

What Conditions Does Piriteze Treat?

Piriteze is licensed to treat several allergic conditions that affect millions of people in the UK. You can use it to manage hay fever symptoms during pollen season, as well as other allergic reactions that occur throughout the year.

  • Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) caused by grass, tree, and weed pollens
  • Perennial allergic rhinitis triggered by dust mites, pet dander, and mould spores
  • Chronic idiopathic urticaria (long-term hives with unknown cause)
  • Allergic conjunctivitis affecting the eyes

The medication helps control symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and skin reactions. Many people find it particularly effective for managing allergy and hay fever symptoms during peak pollen seasons when other treatments may not provide sufficient relief.

Who Can Take Piriteze Tablets?

Piriteze is suitable for adults and children over 6 years of age. The tablets are designed for oral use and should be swallowed whole with water. You do not need to take them with food, though doing so may help if you experience any stomach discomfort.

Before taking Piriteze, you should inform your pharmacist or doctor if you have kidney problems, as the dosage may need adjustment. People with severe kidney impairment should use this medication with caution and under medical supervision.

Storage and Handling Instructions

Store your Piriteze tablets in their original packaging at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep them out of reach of children and do not use them past the expiry date printed on the package. The tablets should remain in their blister pack until you are ready to take them to protect them from humidity.

Check the tablets before taking them - they should be white and round. Do not take any tablets that appear damaged, discoloured, or crumbling, as this may indicate they have been exposed to moisture or heat.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Recommended Dosage for Adults and Children

The standard dose for adults and children over 12 years is one tablet once daily. Children aged 6 to 12 years should take half a tablet twice daily or one tablet once daily, depending on their symptoms and response to treatment. You should follow the dosage instructions on the package or as advised by your pharmacist.

Take your tablet at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels of the medication in your system. This helps ensure continuous symptom control throughout the 24-hour period. You can take Piriteze with or without food, though taking it with a meal may reduce the likelihood of stomach upset in sensitive individuals.

When and How to Take Your Medication

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water - do not crush, chew, or break it. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Never take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

You can start taking Piriteze before your allergy season begins for preventive effect, or when symptoms first appear. The medication begins working within one hour and reaches peak effectiveness within 2-3 hours of taking it. Continue taking it daily throughout your allergy season for consistent symptom control.

Understanding Potential Side Effects

Like all medicines, Piriteze can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most people tolerate cetirizine well, but you should be aware of possible reactions. If you experience persistent or concerning symptoms while taking this medication, consider exploring other skin care solutions alongside your treatment.

The most commonly reported side effects are generally mild and may include drowsiness, headache, and dry mouth. These effects typically diminish as your body adjusts to the medication.

  • Drowsiness or fatigue
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Diarrhoea
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Abdominal pain
  • Cough

If you experience these or any other side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
