Otrivine Antistin Eye Drops for Allergic Conjunctivitis Relief

What Are Antistin Eye Drops Used For?

You can use these eye drops to treat the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, including itchy, watery, and red eyes. The drops contain two active ingredients that work together to provide relief from eye allergies caused by pollen, dust mites, pet dander, and other environmental allergens. When you experience seasonal or perennial allergic reactions affecting your eyes, this combination treatment addresses both the immediate symptoms and the underlying allergic response.

The dual-action formula helps reduce inflammation and blocks histamine receptors in your eyes. This makes the drops particularly effective for managing hay fever symptoms that affect your eyes during peak pollen seasons. You may find relief from the uncomfortable burning sensation and excessive tearing that often accompanies allergic conjunctivitis.

How Do These Allergy Eye Drops Work?

The medication combines an antihistamine with a vasoconstrictor to target different aspects of your allergic reaction. The antihistamine component blocks histamine receptors, preventing the cascade of allergic symptoms that cause itching and inflammation. Meanwhile, the vasoconstrictor reduces blood flow to the affected area, which helps decrease redness and swelling in your eyes.

This dual mechanism means you get faster and more comprehensive relief compared to single-ingredient treatments. The effects typically begin within minutes of application, providing quick relief when you need it most. For those managing ongoing eye allergies, you'll find our complete range of eye care products offers various treatment options to suit different needs.

Who Can Use Otrivine Eye Drops?

These drops are suitable for adults and children over 12 years of age who experience allergic conjunctivitis symptoms. You should not use this product if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, severe cardiovascular disease, or hyperthyroidism. The medication is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your healthcare provider.

Before using otrivine antistin eye drops, inform your pharmacist if you wear contact lenses, as you'll need to remove them before application. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, or other chronic conditions should consult their doctor before starting treatment. The drops are not suitable for children under 12 years of age.

Storage and Handling Instructions

Store your eye drops at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use to prevent contamination and maintain the medication's effectiveness. You should discard the drops 28 days after first opening, even if solution remains in the bottle.

  • Keep out of reach and sight of children
  • Do not store above 25°C
  • Replace the cap immediately after each use
  • Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including your eye

Important Safety Information Before Use

You should not use these drops for more than 7 consecutive days without medical supervision, as prolonged use may lead to rebound congestion or other complications. If your symptoms persist or worsen after several days of treatment, consult your pharmacist or doctor for further evaluation. Avoid driving or operating machinery immediately after application if your vision becomes temporarily blurred.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Recommended Dosage for Adults and Children Over 12

Apply one drop into each affected eye twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening. You should not exceed this dosage unless specifically directed by your healthcare provider. Space your applications approximately 12 hours apart for optimal effectiveness throughout the day.

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. This prevents the preservatives in the medication from being absorbed by your lenses, which could cause irritation or discomfort.

Proper Application Technique

Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the bottle. Tilt your head back slightly and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the bottle above your eye and squeeze gently to release one drop into the pocket you've created. Close your eye gently and press lightly on the inner corner for about one minute to prevent the medication from draining away.

Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye, eyelid, or any other surface to prevent contamination. If you accidentally apply more than one drop, do not worry, but do not apply additional doses to compensate for missed applications. Simply continue with your regular dosing schedule.
