Otrivine Adult Nasal Decongestant Drops for Blocked Nose Relief

How Otrivine Adult Nasal Drops Work

Otrivine Adult Nasal Drops contain xylometazoline hydrochloride, which belongs to a group of medicines called sympathomimetic decongestants. When you apply these drops to your nasal passages, the active ingredient works by narrowing the blood vessels in your nose lining. This action reduces swelling and congestion, helping you breathe more easily through your nose.

The nasal decongestant drops provide fast-acting relief from nasal congestion caused by colds, sinusitis, or allergic rhinitis. You'll typically notice improvement in your breathing within minutes of application, as the medication directly targets the source of your blocked nose.

What Conditions Do These Drops Treat?

These nasal drops are designed to relieve symptoms associated with several common conditions that cause nasal congestion. You can use them when experiencing blocked nose symptoms from various causes.

  • Common cold and upper respiratory tract infections
  • Allergic rhinitis and hay fever symptoms
  • Sinusitis and sinus congestion
  • Nasal congestion from environmental irritants

If you're dealing with seasonal allergies or hay fever, you might find additional relief by exploring our comprehensive allergy and hay fever treatments alongside these nasal drops.

Who Can Use Otrivine Adult Nasal Drops

These nasal drops are specifically formulated for adults and children over 12 years of age. You should not use this product if you're under 12 years old, as the concentration is too strong for younger children.

Before using these drops, you should check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have certain medical conditions, including high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or thyroid disorders. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also seek medical advice before use.

Important Safety Information Before Use

You should not use Otrivine Adult Nasal Drops for more than seven consecutive days, as prolonged use can lead to rebound congestion. This means your nasal congestion may return or worsen when you stop using the drops if you've used them for too long.

Avoid using these drops if you're currently taking or have recently taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or tricyclic antidepressants. You should also not use this product if you've had nasal surgery recently or if you have severe cardiovascular disease.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply Otrivine Adult Nasal Drops Correctly

Before using the drops, blow your nose gently to clear your nasal passages. Tilt your head back slightly and place the recommended number of drops into each nostril. After application, keep your head tilted back for a few moments to allow the medication to spread throughout your nasal passages. You can then return your head to its normal position.

Always wash your hands before and after using the nasal drops to maintain hygiene. Make sure the dropper tip doesn't touch your nose or any other surface to prevent contamination of the solution.

Dosage and Frequency Guidelines

Adults and children over 12 years should follow the dosage instructions provided on the product packaging or as directed by your pharmacist. Typically, you should not use the drops more than three times daily, and you must not exceed the recommended dose.

Space your doses evenly throughout the day for optimal relief. Remember that you should not use these nasal drops for more than seven consecutive days without consulting a healthcare professional. If your symptoms persist or worsen after this period, seek medical advice.
