Otrivine Nasal Spray for Fast Congestion Relief

How Does Xylometazoline Work for Nasal Congestion?

You can rely on this otrivine nasal spray to provide effective relief from nasal congestion caused by colds, sinusitis, or allergic rhinitis. The active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride belongs to a group of medicines called sympathomimetic decongestants, which work by narrowing the blood vessels in your nasal passages.

When you use this nasal decongestant spray, it reduces swelling and inflammation in your nasal tissues, allowing you to breathe more easily through your nose. The metered dose format ensures you receive a consistent amount of medication with each spray, making it easier to control your dosage.

What Conditions Does This Blocked Nose Spray Treat?

This xylometazoline nasal spray is specifically formulated to treat several types of nasal congestion. You can use it when experiencing symptoms from common colds, hay fever, or other upper respiratory conditions that cause your nasal passages to become blocked.

  • Nasal congestion from common colds and flu
  • Blocked nose caused by allergic rhinitis
  • Sinusitis-related nasal stuffiness
  • Seasonal allergy symptoms affecting nasal breathing

The spray format allows the medication to reach deep into your nasal passages, providing targeted relief where you need it most. For additional support with allergy and hay fever symptoms, you may find complementary treatments helpful alongside this congestion relief spray.

Why Choose a Metered Dose Nasal Spray?

The metered dose delivery system in this product ensures you receive precisely the right amount of xylometazoline with each application. This controlled dosing helps prevent overuse whilst maximising the effectiveness of the treatment for your nasal congestion.

Each spray delivers a measured dose directly to the affected nasal tissues, allowing for rapid absorption and quick onset of action. The 10ml bottle provides multiple doses, making it a convenient option for managing ongoing nasal congestion symptoms.

Important Safety Information for Adult Use

This nasal spray is formulated specifically for adult use and should not be used by children under 12 years of age. You should not use this product for more than 7 consecutive days, as prolonged use can lead to rebound congestion, where your nasal passages become more blocked when you stop using the medication.

If you have high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, or an enlarged prostate, you should consult your pharmacist or doctor before using this decongestant. The medication can be absorbed into your bloodstream and may affect these conditions.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Use Your Nasal Decongestant Spray

Before first use, you should prime the spray by pressing the pump several times until a fine mist appears. Remove the protective cap and gently blow your nose to clear your nasal passages. Insert the nozzle into one nostril whilst closing the other nostril with your finger.

Tilt your head slightly forward and press down firmly on the pump whilst breathing in gently through your nose. Remove the nozzle and breathe out through your mouth. Repeat this process for the other nostril if needed. Replace the protective cap after use and wipe the nozzle clean.

Recommended Dosage and Frequency

Adults and children over 12 years should use one spray in each nostril up to three times daily. You should leave at least 6-8 hours between applications to allow the medication to work effectively. Do not exceed the recommended dose, as this will not improve the effectiveness and may increase the risk of side effects.

You should not use this nasal spray for more than 7 consecutive days. If your symptoms persist beyond this time, you should consult your pharmacist or doctor for further advice. Store the product at room temperature and keep it out of reach of children.
