Optilast Azelastine Eye Drops for Allergy Relief

Optilast Eye Drops contain azelastine hydrochloride, an antihistamine specifically formulated for treating allergic conjunctivitis. These azelastine eye drops work directly at the source of your eye allergy symptoms, providing targeted relief from itching, redness, and watering caused by seasonal allergens like pollen or year-round triggers such as dust mites and pet dander.

Each 8ml bottle delivers precise doses to help manage your eye allergy symptoms effectively. The drops are designed for regular use during allergy seasons or as needed when you encounter specific allergens that affect your eyes.

How Azelastine Works to Block Allergic Reactions

Azelastine hydrochloride belongs to a class of medicines called antihistamines. When allergens enter your eyes, your body releases histamine, which causes the characteristic symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis including itching, redness, and excessive tearing.

The active ingredient works by blocking histamine receptors in your eye tissues, preventing the allergic response from developing. This targeted approach means you can experience relief directly where you need it most, without affecting the rest of your body. For comprehensive allergy management, you might also consider browsing our allergy and hay fever collection for additional treatment options.

Who Can Benefit from Optilast Eye Drops

These antihistamine eye drops are suitable for adults and children over 4 years of age who experience allergic conjunctivitis. You may find them particularly helpful if you suffer from seasonal allergies during spring and summer months, or if you have year-round sensitivities to indoor allergens.

Optilast is appropriate for people who experience:

  • Itchy, watery eyes during pollen season
  • Red, irritated eyes from dust or pet allergens
  • Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis symptoms
  • Need for targeted eye allergy relief without systemic effects

Preservative-Free Formula for Sensitive Eyes

Optilast Eye Drops are formulated without preservatives, making them suitable for people with sensitive eyes or those who need to use eye drops frequently. Preservatives in eye drops can sometimes cause additional irritation, particularly with regular use.

The preservative-free formulation reduces the risk of further eye irritation whilst still maintaining the effectiveness of the azelastine hydrochloride. This makes the drops suitable for long-term use during extended allergy seasons.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store your Optilast Eye Drops at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Once opened, the bottle should be used within 6 weeks to maintain sterility and effectiveness. Always replace the cap tightly after each use to prevent contamination.

Keep the drops out of reach of children and check the expiry date before each use. Do not use the drops if the solution appears cloudy or contains particles, as this may indicate contamination.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Recommended Dosage for Adults and Children

For adults and children over 4 years of age, instil one drop into each affected eye twice daily. You can increase this to one drop into each affected eye up to four times daily if your symptoms require additional relief, but do not exceed this maximum dosage.

If you are using the drops for seasonal allergies, you may find it helpful to start treatment before your usual allergy season begins for optimal symptom prevention. Continue using the drops regularly throughout your allergy season or as directed by your healthcare provider.

Proper Application Technique

Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the eye drops. Tilt your head back slightly and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the bottle above your eye and squeeze gently to release one drop into the pocket formed by your lower eyelid.

Avoid touching the tip of the bottle to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. After instilling the drop, close your eye gently and press lightly on the inner corner of your eye for about one minute to prevent the medication from draining away. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
