Canesten Thrush Duo Treatment for Complete Relief

You can treat vaginal thrush effectively with this dual-action treatment that combines an oral capsule and external cream. The canesten thrush duo provides both internal and external relief from thrush symptoms, addressing the infection from multiple angles for comprehensive care.

This combination treatment contains fluconazole in the oral capsule to tackle the fungal infection internally, whilst the external cream provides immediate relief from external symptoms such as itching and irritation around the vulval area.

How This Dual Treatment Works Against Thrush

The oral capsule contains fluconazole, an antifungal medicine that works by stopping the growth of Candida albicans, the fungus responsible for thrush. It travels through your bloodstream to reach the site of infection and disrupts the fungal cell walls.

The external cream provides immediate topical relief from symptoms whilst the oral treatment takes effect. This dual approach means you can experience faster symptom relief whilst ensuring the underlying infection is properly treated. For additional support with thrush treatments, you can explore other options available.

Who Should Use This Thrush Treatment

This treatment is suitable for women aged 16-60 years who are experiencing their first episode of vaginal thrush or have had thrush diagnosed by a doctor previously. You should recognise the typical symptoms before using this treatment.

The treatment is appropriate if you experience:

  • Thick, white vaginal discharge that doesn't smell
  • Itching and irritation around the vagina and vulva
  • Soreness and stinging during urination or intercourse
  • Swelling of the vulva

Why Choose a Combination Treatment Approach

The dual-action approach offers you both immediate symptom relief and thorough treatment of the underlying infection. Whilst the oral capsule works systemically to eliminate the fungal overgrowth, the external cream provides rapid relief from uncomfortable external symptoms.

This combination ensures you don't have to wait for the oral treatment to take full effect before experiencing relief from itching and irritation. The treatment is designed to work together, with each component complementing the other for optimal results.

Clinical Suitability and Storage Requirements

You should store both the capsule and cream at room temperature, below 25°C, and keep them in their original packaging. The treatment is not suitable if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain medical conditions including liver problems or heart rhythm disorders.

You should not use this treatment if you're taking certain medications, particularly those that can interact with fluconazole. Always check with your pharmacist if you're unsure about potential interactions with your current medications.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Take the Oral Capsule

You should take the single oral capsule with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food, and it can be taken at any time of day. The capsule should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed.

Most women find their symptoms begin to improve within 24-48 hours of taking the capsule, though it may take up to a week for symptoms to completely resolve. You should only take one capsule as part of this treatment course.

How to Apply the External Cream

You should apply the external cream to the affected area around the vulva twice daily, morning and evening. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application. Apply a thin layer of cream to the external genital area where you're experiencing symptoms.

You can continue using the external cream for up to six days or until your symptoms have cleared. The cream should not be inserted into the vagina. If your symptoms persist after completing the treatment, you should consult your pharmacist or doctor.

Very good product. Works right away. Can sometimes leave a need for a second dose as it can leave a little residue behind.
