Nurofen for Children Liquid Strawberry Flavour - Effective Children's Ibuprofen Liquid

Nurofen for Children Liquid provides effective relief from pain and fever in a strawberry-flavoured formulation designed specifically for young patients. This children's ibuprofen liquid contains ibuprofen as the active ingredient, offering targeted symptom management for common childhood ailments including headaches, toothache, earache, and fever associated with colds and flu.

The 200ml bottle provides a convenient liquid format that makes administration easier for parents and more acceptable for children who may struggle with solid dosage forms. The pleasant strawberry flavour helps mask the natural taste of the medicine, encouraging compliance with treatment regimens.

How Ibuprofen Works to Reduce Pain and Fever

Ibuprofen belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the body called prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing pain, inflammation, and fever. By reducing prostaglandin production, ibuprofen effectively lowers body temperature during fever episodes and provides relief from various types of pain.

The liquid formulation allows for faster absorption compared to solid forms, typically beginning to work within 15-30 minutes of administration. This makes it particularly suitable for managing acute symptoms in children who need prompt relief.

Suitable for Children Aged 3 Months and Over

This nurofen children liquid is specifically formulated for paediatric use and is suitable for children from 3 months of age, provided they weigh at least 5kg. It offers versatile symptom management for various childhood conditions and can be particularly helpful when other pain relief options are not suitable.

The medicine is appropriate for treating several common childhood symptoms:

  • Fever reduction during illness
  • Relief from headaches and general aches
  • Management of toothache and teething discomfort
  • Earache and throat pain relief

Sugar-Free Formulation for Better Oral Health

This liquid ibuprofen strawberry formulation is sugar-free, making it a more suitable choice for children's dental health. Regular exposure to sugar-containing medicines can contribute to tooth decay, particularly when administered frequently during illness periods. The sugar-free formulation helps minimise this risk while still providing the appealing taste that encourages children to take their medicine.

The absence of sugar also makes this medicine more suitable for children with diabetes or those following sugar-restricted diets, though medical supervision is still required for these patient groups.

Storage Requirements and Shelf Life Considerations

Store this children's fever medicine below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Do not refrigerate as this may affect the consistency and palatability of the liquid. Once opened, the medicine should be used within the timeframe specified on the packaging and any remaining liquid should be disposed of safely after the treatment course is complete.

Always check the expiry date before administration and never use expired medicine. Keep the original packaging and patient information leaflet for reference throughout the treatment period.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Dosage Instructions for Different Age Groups

The dosage of this liquid ibuprofen is determined by your child's age and weight. Always use the measuring syringe provided in the pack to ensure accurate dosing. For children aged 3-6 months weighing 5-7.6kg, the typical dose is 2.5ml given up to three times daily. Children aged 6-12 months weighing 7.7-10kg usually receive 2.5ml up to three or four times daily, while those aged 1-3 years weighing 10-15kg typically take 5ml up to three times daily.

Children aged 4-6 years weighing 16-20kg generally receive 7.5ml up to three times daily, and those aged 7-9 years weighing 21-29kg usually take 10ml up to three times daily. For children aged 10-12 years weighing 30-40kg, the typical dose is 15ml up to three times daily. Always leave at least six hours between doses and do not exceed the stated dose or give for more than three days unless advised by a healthcare professional.

Administration Guidelines and Timing

Administer this medicine with or after food to reduce the risk of stomach upset. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the medicine is properly mixed. Use only the measuring device provided with the product to ensure accurate dosing. The medicine can be given every six to eight hours as needed, but should not be administered more frequently than every six hours.

If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking a dose, you may give the same dose again. However, if vomiting continues, stop giving the medicine and consult your pharmacist or doctor. Keep a record of when doses are given to avoid accidental overdosing, especially if multiple caregivers are involved in administering the medicine.

Understanding Potential Side Effects
