MolluDab Solution: Effective Molluscum Contagiosum Treatment

MolluDab Solution contains 5% potassium hydroxide in a convenient 2ml applicator bottle designed for precise treatment of molluscum contagiosum lesions. This topical solution works by causing controlled destruction of the viral lesions, helping your skin return to its normal appearance. The single-use applicators ensure hygienic application whilst minimising the risk of spreading the infection to other areas of your body.

Each bottle provides sufficient solution for treating multiple lesions, with the precise applicator allowing you to target individual bumps without affecting surrounding healthy skin. The molluscum contagiosum treatment is suitable for use on various body areas where lesions commonly appear.

How Potassium Hydroxide Works Against Molluscum

Potassium hydroxide creates a controlled chemical reaction that breaks down the protein structure within molluscum lesions. This process causes the infected skin cells to separate and eventually shed, allowing healthy skin to regenerate in their place. The 5% concentration provides effective treatment whilst being suitable for home use under proper guidance.

The solution works by disrupting the viral particles within the lesions, preventing them from continuing to replicate. This targeted approach helps reduce the duration of infection compared to waiting for natural resolution, which can take months or years.

Who Can Use MolluDab Solution

This treatment is suitable for adults and children over 2 years of age who have been diagnosed with molluscum contagiosum by a healthcare professional. The solution is particularly useful for treating lesions that are causing discomfort, embarrassment, or are at risk of secondary bacterial infection. You can find additional skin care products to support your treatment routine.

MolluDab is appropriate for treating lesions on most body areas, including:

  • Arms and legs
  • Trunk and torso
  • Face (with extra care around eyes)
  • Areas prone to scratching or irritation

Why Choose Single-Use Applicators

The individual applicator design prevents cross-contamination between lesions and reduces the risk of spreading infection to family members. Each applicator contains the precise amount needed for treatment, eliminating guesswork about dosage. This system also prevents the solution from becoming contaminated through repeated use, maintaining its effectiveness throughout the treatment course.

The controlled application method allows you to treat lesions accurately without affecting healthy surrounding skin, reducing the likelihood of unnecessary irritation or scarring.

Storage and Handling Requirements

Store MolluDab Solution at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. The solution should be used within the expiry date printed on the packaging. Each applicator should be used immediately after opening and disposed of safely after single use. Do not store opened applicators for future use as this may compromise the solution's effectiveness and sterility.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply MolluDab Solution

Before application, wash your hands thoroughly and clean the affected area with mild soap and water. Pat the skin dry completely before proceeding. Open one applicator and apply a small amount of solution directly to each lesion, ensuring you cover the entire surface of the bump. Avoid contact with healthy surrounding skin by applying the solution carefully to the raised lesion only.

Allow the solution to dry completely on the lesion before covering with clothing. The treated area may appear white or frosted immediately after application, which is normal. Wash your hands thoroughly after application and dispose of the used applicator safely.

Treatment Frequency and Duration

Apply the solution once daily to affected lesions, preferably in the evening. Treatment should continue until the lesions begin to show signs of resolution, typically appearing flatter or developing a small scab. Most lesions respond within 2-4 weeks of regular application, though some may require longer treatment periods.

If lesions have not shown improvement after 4 weeks of treatment, or if new lesions continue to appear, consult your pharmacist or doctor for further advice. Do not exceed the recommended application frequency as this may increase the risk of skin irritation without improving effectiveness.

Understanding Potential Side Effects

Like all medicines, MolluDab Solution can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most side effects are mild and occur at the application site as part of the normal treatment process. If you experience any concerning symptoms, you can explore other creams and ointments that may help soothe irritated skin.

The most common side effects include temporary stinging or burning sensation immediately after application, and mild redness around the treated lesion. These effects typically subside within a few minutes of application.

Known side effects may include:

  • Stinging or burning sensation during application
  • Temporary redness around treated lesions
  • Mild swelling at application site
  • Skin irritation or sensitivity
  • Temporary white or frosted appearance of treated area
  • Scab formation as lesions heal
  • Temporary darkening of treated skin
  • Mild itching around healing lesions
  • Dry or flaky skin at treatment site
  • Temporary changes in skin pigmentation

If you experience these or any other side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
