Nurofen for Children's Ibuprofen Liquid Strawberry Flavour

This children's ibuprofen liquid provides effective relief from pain and fever in children aged 3 months to 12 years. The strawberry flavouring makes it easier for children to take, whilst the liquid formulation allows for accurate dosing based on your child's age and weight. Each 5ml contains 100mg of ibuprofen, the active ingredient that belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

You can use this medicine to treat various childhood conditions including teething pain, earache, sore throat, headache, minor aches and sprains, and symptoms of cold and flu. The liquid format is particularly suitable for young children who cannot swallow tablets or capsules safely.

How Ibuprofen Works in Children

Ibuprofen works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the body called prostaglandins. These chemicals are produced in response to injury or illness and cause pain, swelling and fever. By reducing prostaglandin production, ibuprofen helps to lower your child's temperature and reduce pain and inflammation.

The medicine starts working within 30 minutes of taking it, with maximum effects typically seen within 1-2 hours. The pain-relieving and fever-reducing effects can last for up to 8 hours, though this may vary between individual children.

Suitable for Various Childhood Conditions

This strawberry-flavoured liquid is appropriate for children experiencing different types of discomfort and fever. It's particularly useful when your child needs both pain relief and temperature reduction, as ibuprofen addresses both symptoms simultaneously. Many parents find it helpful to have this medicine available for managing common childhood ailments, and you can explore our full range of baby and toddler healthcare products for comprehensive care solutions.

The medicine is suitable for treating:

  • Fever associated with cold, flu or other infections
  • Teething pain and discomfort
  • Headaches and earache
  • Minor injuries, sprains and muscle aches

Why Choose Liquid Formulation

Liquid medicines offer several advantages for children, particularly those under 12 years old. The strawberry flavour helps mask the natural taste of ibuprofen, making it more acceptable to children who might otherwise refuse medication. The liquid format also allows you to measure precise doses using the included syringe or measuring spoon.

Unlike tablets that require swallowing skills, liquid medicine can be given to very young children safely. The 100ml bottle provides multiple doses, making it cost-effective for families whilst ensuring you have medicine available when your child needs it.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store this medicine in a cool, dry place below 25°C and keep it out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging. Once opened, the medicine should be used within 6 months or by the expiry date, whichever comes first.

Always check the medicine before giving it to your child. Do not use if the liquid appears cloudy, has changed colour, or if you notice any particles floating in it. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use to maintain the medicine's effectiveness.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Dosage Instructions for Children

Always follow the dosage instructions on the packaging and never exceed the recommended dose. For children aged 3-6 months weighing over 5kg, give 2.5ml up to three times daily. Children aged 6-12 months should receive 2.5ml up to three to four times daily. For children aged 1-3 years, give 5ml up to three times daily, and children aged 4-6 years should receive 7.5ml up to three times daily.

Children aged 7-9 years require 10ml up to three times daily, whilst those aged 10-12 years should receive 15ml up to three times daily. Leave at least 6-8 hours between doses and do not give more than three doses in 24 hours unless advised by your doctor. Use the measuring syringe or spoon provided to ensure accurate dosing.

Administration Guidelines

Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the medicine is properly mixed. You can give this medicine with or without food, though giving it with food may help reduce the chance of stomach upset in sensitive children. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the dose, you may give the same dose again.

Do not use for more than 3 days for fever or 3 days for pain relief unless your doctor tells you to. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Always wash the measuring device after use and store it with the medicine.

Understanding Potential Side Effects

Like all medicines, Nurofen for Children Liquid Strawberry Flavour can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most children tolerate ibuprofen well when used as directed, and serious side effects are uncommon when the medicine is used appropriately for short periods. If you're managing multiple symptoms, you might also consider our cold and flu collection for additional supportive treatments.

The most commonly reported side effects include stomach upset, nausea, and mild digestive discomfort. These effects are usually mild and temporary, often resolving once the medicine is stopped or when given with food.

Possible side effects may include:

  • Stomach pain or discomfort
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Skin rash or itching
  • Drowsiness or restlessness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Flatulence or bloating
  • Mouth ulcers (rare)
