Nurofen For Children Cold, Pain, Fever Strawberry Flavour - Children's Ibuprofen Suspension

This strawberry-flavoured oral suspension contains ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) specifically formulated for children. You can use this medicine to reduce fever and relieve pain associated with teething, earache, sore throat, headache, minor aches, and cold or flu symptoms in children aged 3 months to 12 years.

The liquid formulation makes it easier for children to take compared to tablets, and the pleasant strawberry taste helps improve compliance. Each 5ml contains 100mg of ibuprofen, providing effective symptom relief when your child needs it most.

How Ibuprofen Works to Reduce Fever and Pain

Ibuprofen works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, pain, and fever. By reducing prostaglandin levels, this medicine helps lower your child's temperature and provides relief from discomfort.

The anti-inflammatory properties also help reduce swelling and inflammation, making it particularly effective for conditions like teething pain or minor injuries. You should start to see improvements in your child's symptoms within 30 minutes to 1 hour of administration.

Suitable for Children from 3 Months to 12 Years

This medicine is appropriate for children weighing over 5kg (approximately 3 months old) up to 12 years of age. The dosage varies according to your child's age and weight, ensuring safe and effective treatment. You should always use the measuring syringe provided to ensure accurate dosing.

  • Children aged 3-6 months: suitable for post-immunisation fever only
  • Children aged 6 months to 12 years: suitable for fever, pain, and cold symptoms
  • Not suitable for children under 3 months or weighing less than 5kg
  • Always check with your pharmacist if you're unsure about suitability

If your child has asthma, kidney problems, or is taking other medications, you should consult your pharmacist or doctor before use. This medicine can be used alongside pain relief options like paracetamol if needed, but never exceed the recommended dose.

Sugar-Free Formula with Pleasant Strawberry Taste

This formulation is sugar-free, making it suitable for children who need to avoid sugar or have dental concerns. The strawberry flavouring helps mask the medicinal taste, making it more acceptable to children who might otherwise refuse medication.

The liquid format allows for flexible dosing based on your child's exact weight and age, providing more precise treatment than fixed-dose tablets. This is particularly important for younger children where accurate dosing is crucial for both safety and effectiveness.

Storage and Shelf Life Information

You should store this medicine in a cool, dry place below 25°C and keep it out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging, and once opened, use within 6 months.

Always shake the bottle well before use to ensure the medicine is properly mixed. Keep the original packaging and patient information leaflet for reference, and never transfer the medicine to another container as this could lead to dosing errors.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Dosage Instructions for Different Age Groups

You should give this medicine using the oral syringe provided, which allows for accurate measurement. For children aged 3-6 months weighing 5-7.6kg, give 2.5ml up to three times daily, but only for post-immunisation fever and only if your child was born after 37 weeks. For children aged 6 months to 1 year weighing 6-10kg, give 2.5ml up to three times daily. Children aged 1-3 years weighing 10-15kg should receive 5ml up to three times daily, while those aged 4-6 years weighing 15-20kg need 7.5ml up to three times daily. Children aged 7-9 years weighing 20-29kg require 10ml up to three times daily, and those aged 10-12 years weighing 29-40kg should receive 15ml up to three times daily.

Administration Guidelines and Timing

You should leave at least 6 hours between doses and never give more than 3 doses in 24 hours. Shake the bottle well before each use and draw up the correct amount using the oral syringe. You can give this medicine with or without food, though giving it with food may help reduce the risk of stomach upset. If your child's symptoms persist for more than 3 days, or if they worsen, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist. Do not exceed the stated dose, and if you accidentally give too much, seek medical advice immediately.
