Nurofen Double Strength Children's Ibuprofen for Ages 7-12

This strawberry-flavoured oral suspension contains ibuprofen specifically formulated for children aged 7 to 12 years. The double strength formulation provides effective relief from pain and fever whilst being gentle on young stomachs. You can use this medicine to help manage your child's discomfort from headaches, toothache, earache, sore throat, minor aches and sprains, and symptoms of cold and flu.

The 100ml bottle comes with a measuring syringe to ensure accurate dosing based on your child's age and weight. This children's ibuprofen belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and works by reducing inflammation, pain and fever.

How Ibuprofen Works in Children

Ibuprofen works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body that cause pain, inflammation and fever. When your child has an injury or infection, prostaglandins are released at the site, causing swelling, pain and increased temperature. By reducing prostaglandin production, ibuprofen helps to lower fever and reduce both pain and inflammation.

The medicine typically begins working within 20 to 30 minutes of administration, with peak effects occurring after 1 to 2 hours. The anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects can last for up to 8 hours, making it suitable for managing your child's symptoms throughout the day and night.

Suitable for School-Age Children

This formulation is specifically designed for children between 7 and 12 years of age who weigh between 22kg and 40kg. The double strength concentration means fewer doses are needed compared to standard strength formulations, which can be more convenient for busy families. For comprehensive symptom management, you may also want to explore our cold and flu collection for additional supportive treatments.

The medicine is particularly effective for:

  • Reducing fever associated with common childhood illnesses
  • Managing pain from dental procedures or toothache
  • Relieving headaches and minor injuries from sports or play
  • Easing discomfort from ear infections and sore throats

Why Choose Strawberry Flavoured Medicine

The pleasant strawberry flavour makes medicine time less stressful for both you and your child. Many children find unflavoured medicines unpalatable, which can lead to difficulties with administration and incomplete dosing. This strawberry-flavoured formulation helps ensure your child receives the full therapeutic dose needed for effective symptom relief.

The liquid formulation is also easier for children to swallow compared to tablets or capsules, and the included measuring syringe allows for precise dosing based on your child's specific weight and age requirements.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store this medicine in a cool, dry place below 25°C and keep it out of reach and sight of children when not in use. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging. Once opened, the medicine should be used within 6 months or by the expiry date, whichever comes first. Always check the measuring syringe is clean before each use and replace the cap tightly after administration.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Dosage Instructions for Children Aged 7-12

Always use the measuring syringe provided to ensure accurate dosing. The dose depends on your child's age and weight, so check the packaging instructions carefully before administration. Give the medicine with or after food to reduce the risk of stomach upset. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the medicine is properly mixed.

Administration Guidelines and Timing

You can give doses every 6 to 8 hours as needed, but do not exceed the maximum daily dose stated on the packaging. If your child's symptoms persist for more than 3 days, or if they develop new symptoms, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Do not give this medicine with other products containing ibuprofen or other NSAIDs unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional.

Always read the product information leaflet before use and follow the dosing instructions exactly as printed on the packaging. If you are unsure about the correct dose for your child, speak to your pharmacist before giving the medicine.

Understanding Potential Side Effects

Like all medicines, Nurofen Double Strength For Children can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most children tolerate ibuprofen well when used as directed, but it's important to be aware of possible reactions. If your child needs additional support for ongoing symptoms, our pain relief collection offers various options suitable for different age groups.

The most common side effects are usually mild and affect the digestive system. These typically occur when the medicine is taken on an empty stomach or used for extended periods.

Possible side effects may include:

  • Nausea or feeling sick

  • Diarrhoea or loose stools
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Skin rash or itching
  • Drowsiness or tiredness
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
