GoldenEye Antibiotic Eye Ointment for Bacterial Eye Infections

GoldenEye antibiotic eye ointment contains chloramphenicol, a broad-spectrum antibiotic that treats bacterial eye infections including bacterial conjunctivitis. This topical treatment works directly at the site of infection to eliminate harmful bacteria causing redness, discharge, and discomfort in your eyes.

The 4g tube provides sufficient treatment for a typical course of bacterial conjunctivitis. You can use this eye infection treatment for adults and children over 2 years of age when bacterial infection is suspected.

How Chloramphenicol Treats Bacterial Eye Infections

Chloramphenicol works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, preventing harmful bacteria from multiplying and spreading. This mechanism allows your body's natural defences to clear the existing infection whilst the antibiotic prevents new bacterial growth.

The ointment formulation provides longer contact time with the infected area compared to eye drops, making it particularly suitable for overnight treatment. This extended contact helps ensure thorough bacterial elimination from the affected eye tissues.

Who Should Use This Bacterial Conjunctivitis Ointment

This treatment suits adults and children over 2 years experiencing symptoms of bacterial eye infection. You should consider this medication when you notice purulent discharge, sticky eyelids, or persistent redness that suggests bacterial rather than viral conjunctivitis.

  • Adults and children over 2 years with bacterial conjunctivitis
  • Patients experiencing purulent eye discharge
  • Those with sticky eyelids upon waking
  • People requiring overnight eye infection treatment

Our eye care range includes various treatments for different eye conditions, helping you find the right solution for your specific needs.

Why Choose Topical Antibiotic Treatment

Topical antibiotic treatment delivers medication directly to the infected area, providing higher local concentrations than oral antibiotics whilst minimising systemic exposure. This targeted approach reduces the risk of systemic side effects whilst maintaining therapeutic effectiveness.

The ointment base also provides lubrication, helping to soothe irritated eye tissues during the healing process. This dual action of antimicrobial treatment and symptom relief makes topical therapy particularly suitable for bacterial eye infections.

Clinical Suitability and Storage Requirements

Store this medication below 25°C and use within 28 days of first opening. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use to maintain sterility and prevent contamination.

Do not use if you are allergic to chloramphenicol or any other ingredients. Consult your pharmacist before use if you wear contact lenses, as you should remove them before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment

Wash your hands thoroughly before application. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket and squeeze approximately 1cm of ointment into this space. Close your eye gently and blink several times to distribute the medication evenly across the eye surface.

Avoid touching the tube tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Replace the cap immediately after use and wash your hands again to prevent spreading infection to your other eye or to other people.

Treatment Duration and Frequency

Apply the ointment every 3-4 hours during the day, or as directed by your pharmacist or doctor. Continue treatment for 48 hours after your symptoms have cleared to ensure complete bacterial elimination.

If your symptoms do not improve within 2 days of starting treatment, or if they worsen at any time, stop using the ointment and consult your doctor or pharmacist. This may indicate that your infection requires different treatment or professional medical assessment.
