Galpharm Children's Ibuprofen Oral Suspension - Sugar Free Pain Relief

You can trust this children's ibuprofen oral suspension to provide effective relief from your child's pain and fever. This sugar-free formulation contains 100mg of ibuprofen per 5ml, making it suitable for children who need to avoid sugar in their diet. The liquid format makes administration easier for young children who may struggle with tablets.

This medicine belongs to a group called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing inflammation, pain, and fever in children aged 3 months and over. The oral suspension provides a convenient way to give your child the exact dose they need based on their age and weight.

How Ibuprofen Works to Reduce Pain and Fever

Ibuprofen works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in your child's body called prostaglandins. These chemicals are produced in response to injury or illness and cause pain, swelling, and fever. By reducing prostaglandin production, ibuprofen helps to lower your child's temperature and reduce their discomfort.

The medicine is absorbed into your child's bloodstream through their digestive system. You should start to see the effects within 20-30 minutes of giving the dose, with maximum effectiveness typically reached within 1-2 hours. The effects can last for up to 8 hours, depending on your child's individual response.

Which Children Can Take This Medicine

This ibuprofen suspension is suitable for children aged 3 months and over who weigh at least 5kg. It can be used to treat various conditions that cause pain and fever in children. You should always check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're unsure whether this medicine is appropriate for your child.

The medicine can help with:

  • Fever reduction during illness
  • Pain relief after minor injuries
  • Discomfort from teething in babies over 3 months
  • Headaches and general aches

If your child has asthma, kidney problems, or heart conditions, you should speak to your doctor before giving them ibuprofen. The medicine is not suitable for children who are allergic to ibuprofen or other NSAIDs. For comprehensive pain relief options for your family, explore our full range of treatments.

Benefits of Sugar-Free Formulation

The sugar-free formulation makes this medicine suitable for children who need to limit their sugar intake. This includes children with diabetes or those whose parents prefer to avoid giving them unnecessary sugar. The absence of sugar also makes it better for your child's dental health, especially important when they may need to take the medicine regularly.

Despite being sugar-free, the medicine has a pleasant taste that most children will accept readily. This helps ensure your child takes their full dose without the struggle that can sometimes occur with medicines that taste unpleasant.

Storage and Shelf Life Information

You should store this medicine in a cool, dry place below 25°C and keep it out of reach of children. Do not store it in the bathroom or anywhere that gets damp, as moisture can affect the medicine's effectiveness. Once opened, you can use the medicine for up to 6 months, provided you store it correctly.

Always check the expiry date before giving the medicine to your child. If the medicine has changed colour, developed an unusual smell, or contains visible particles, do not use it and dispose of it safely at your local pharmacy.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Correct Dosage Based on Your Child's Age and Weight

You should always follow the dosage instructions on the packaging or those given by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose depends on your child's age and weight, not just their age alone. For children aged 3-6 months weighing over 5kg, the usual dose is 2.5ml given up to three times in 24 hours. Children aged 6 months to 1 year typically need 2.5ml given up to three or four times in 24 hours.

For children aged 1-4 years, the usual dose is 5ml given up to three times in 24 hours. Children aged 4-7 years typically need 7.5ml given up to three times in 24 hours, while those aged 7-10 years usually require 10ml given up to three times in 24 hours. You should leave at least 6-8 hours between doses and never exceed the maximum daily amount.

How to Give the Medicine Safely

You should shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the medicine is properly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or syringe provided with the medicine to ensure you give the correct dose. Never use a household teaspoon as these vary in size and may lead to incorrect dosing.

You can give the medicine with or without food, though giving it with food may help reduce the chance of stomach upset. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the dose, you can give the same dose again. However, if they vomit after 30 minutes, wait until the next scheduled dose time. Do not give the medicine for more than 3 days for fever or 3 days for pain relief without consulting your doctor.
