Flowflex Antigen Rapid Covid Lateral Flow Test

The Flowflex Antigen Rapid Covid lateral flow test provides reliable detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigens from nasal swab samples. This rapid antigen test delivers results within 15 minutes, allowing you to quickly determine your COVID-19 status from the comfort of your home. The test kit contains all necessary components for self-testing and follows the same technology used in professional healthcare settings.

Each test kit is designed for single use and requires no additional equipment beyond what is provided. The lateral flow test kit meets regulatory standards for home testing and has been validated for accuracy in detecting COVID-19 antigens when symptoms are present or for routine screening purposes.

How the Rapid Antigen Test Works

The test detects specific proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 virus present in your nasal secretions. You collect a sample using the provided swab, which is then mixed with the extraction solution and applied to the test cassette. The sample flows along the test strip, and if COVID-19 antigens are present, they bind to antibodies on the strip, producing visible lines that indicate your result.

The covid home test uses lateral flow immunoassay technology, which is the same principle used in pregnancy tests and other rapid diagnostic devices. Results appear as coloured lines on the test window, with clear instructions provided to help you interpret positive, negative, or invalid results correctly.

Who Should Use This COVID Self Test

This test is suitable for adults and children over 2 years of age who wish to check their COVID-19 status. You may want to use this test if you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, or need to test before visiting vulnerable individuals. Many people also use these tests as part of first aid preparations for travel or workplace requirements.

The test is particularly useful for:

  • People experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, or loss of taste/smell
  • Individuals who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19
  • Those requiring negative test results for travel or work purposes
  • Regular screening in households with vulnerable members

Why Choose Lateral Flow Testing

Lateral flow tests offer the convenience of immediate results without the need to visit a testing centre or wait for laboratory processing. The Flowflex test provides reliable detection when viral loads are typically highest, which often corresponds with peak infectiousness. This makes it an effective tool for reducing transmission by identifying positive cases quickly.

The test's portability means you can perform it anywhere, making it ideal for regular monitoring or testing before social gatherings. Unlike PCR tests, which require laboratory analysis, this rapid test gives you actionable information within minutes, allowing for immediate isolation if positive.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store the test kit at room temperature between 2°C and 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze the components, as this may affect test accuracy. Each kit has an expiration date printed on the packaging, and you should not use tests beyond this date as results may not be reliable.

Keep the test kit in its original packaging until ready to use, and ensure all components remain sealed until testing. The test should be performed at room temperature for optimal results, so allow refrigerated kits to reach room temperature before use.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Perform Your COVID Test

Wash your hands thoroughly before opening the test kit. Remove all components from the packaging and place them on a clean, flat surface. Insert the swab into your nostril until you feel slight resistance, then rotate the swab several times against the nasal wall. Repeat this process in the other nostril using the same swab. The swab should be inserted approximately 1-2 centimetres into each nostril.

Place the swab into the extraction tube and rotate it vigorously for 10 seconds while pressing the sides of the tube. Remove the swab while squeezing the tube sides to extract as much liquid as possible. Attach the dropper cap to the tube and mix the solution by gently squeezing the tube several times.

Reading Your Test Results

Apply exactly 2 drops of the extracted solution to the sample well on the test cassette. Set a timer for 15 minutes and read the results only after this time has elapsed. Do not interpret results after 30 minutes as they may not be accurate. A positive result shows two lines (control and test lines), while a negative result shows only the control line. If no control line appears, the test is invalid and should be repeated with a new kit.

Take a photograph of your result for your records, especially if positive, as you may need to report this to relevant authorities or healthcare providers. If you receive a positive result, you should isolate immediately and follow current government guidance regarding COVID-19 positive cases.

Understanding Potential Test Limitations

Like all medicines, Flowflex Antigen Rapid Covid Lateral Flow Test can have limitations, although most users will not experience problems. The test may occasionally produce false negative results, particularly in early infection stages when viral loads are low, or false positive results due to cross-reactivity with other substances. If you're experiencing symptoms but receive a negative result, consider retesting after 24-48 hours or consulting with healthcare professionals from our cold and flu treatment range.

Most commonly reported issues include difficulty interpreting faint lines or confusion about timing requirements. Some users may experience minor discomfort during swab collection, particularly if the swab is inserted too deeply.

Potential limitations and considerations include:

  • False negative results in early infection stages
  • Reduced sensitivity compared to PCR tests
  • Possible false positives due to improper technique
  • Invalid results if instructions are not followed correctly
  • Difficulty reading faint positive lines
  • Temporary nasal discomfort during sample collection
  • Results may not detect all COVID-19 variants equally
  • Test accuracy depends on proper sample collection technique
  • Environmental factors may affect test performance
  • Cross-reactivity with other respiratory viruses is possible
  • Results should be interpreted alongside clinical symptoms
  • Regular testing may be needed for ongoing monitoring

If you experience these or any other side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
