Derbac M Liquid Head Lice Treatment - 150ml

You can effectively treat head lice infestations with this medicated lotion containing malathion as the active ingredient. Derbac M liquid works by targeting both adult lice and their eggs, providing a thorough treatment approach for the whole family. The 150ml bottle provides sufficient quantity for multiple applications or treating several family members when needed.

This treatment has been specifically formulated to penetrate the hair shaft and reach lice hiding close to the scalp. You'll find it particularly effective against lice that may have developed resistance to other treatments, making it a reliable choice for persistent infestations.

How Malathion Eliminates Head Lice

The active ingredient works by interfering with the nervous system of head lice, causing paralysis and death. You apply the lotion directly to dry hair, ensuring complete coverage from roots to tips. The treatment remains active on your hair for the recommended contact time, allowing it to eliminate both live lice and developing eggs.

Unlike some treatments that only target adult lice, this formulation addresses the complete lice lifecycle. You'll need to leave the treatment on for the specified duration to ensure maximum effectiveness against all stages of lice development.

Suitable for Adults and Children Over 6 Months

This treatment can be used by most family members, including children from 6 months of age. You should check all household members for signs of infestation, as head lice spread easily through close contact. The treatment is particularly suitable for families dealing with school-based outbreaks or recurring infestations.

Consider this treatment if you need:

  • Effective elimination of both lice and eggs
  • Treatment for multiple family members
  • A solution for lice resistant to other treatments
  • Coverage for thick or long hair types

You can find additional head lice treatments if you need alternative options or complementary products for your family's needs.

Alcohol-Based Formula for Enhanced Penetration

The alcohol-based formulation helps the active ingredient penetrate effectively through hair and reach the scalp where lice typically congregate. You'll find this particularly beneficial if you have thick or treated hair that might otherwise resist penetration by water-based treatments.

This formulation also helps the treatment spread evenly through your hair, ensuring comprehensive coverage. The alcohol base evaporates during the treatment period, concentrating the active ingredient where it's needed most.

Storage and Handling Requirements

You should store this treatment at room temperature, away from heat sources and naked flames due to its alcohol content. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and ensure it remains out of reach of children. The treatment should be used within the expiry date printed on the packaging for optimal effectiveness.

Always check the bottle for any signs of damage before use and replace if the seal has been compromised. You should dispose of any unused treatment according to local pharmaceutical waste guidelines.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Application Instructions for Head Lice Treatment

You should apply the lotion to dry hair, starting at the roots and working through to the tips. Ensure you cover all areas of the scalp and hair thoroughly, paying particular attention to areas behind the ears and at the nape of the neck where lice commonly hide. Use enough product to saturate the hair completely without it dripping excessively.

Allow the hair to dry naturally after application - do not use a hairdryer as the heat may reduce the treatment's effectiveness. You should leave the treatment on for 12 hours or overnight for optimal results. Cover the treated hair with a shower cap or towel to prevent the treatment from transferring to bedding.

Washing and Follow-Up Treatment Schedule

After the recommended contact time, you should wash the hair thoroughly with ordinary shampoo and warm water. Use a fine-toothed nit comb while the hair is still damp to remove dead lice and eggs. You may need to repeat this combing process over several days to ensure all debris is removed.

A second treatment should be applied after 7 days to eliminate any lice that may have hatched from eggs since the first application. You should check all family members and treat simultaneously if infestations are found. Wash all bedding, clothing, and personal items in hot water on the same day as treatment.

Potential Side Effects and Safety Information

Like all medicines, Derbac M Liquid can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. If you're managing multiple skin care concerns , discuss with your pharmacist about timing different treatments appropriately.
