Daktarin Intensive Ketoconazole Cream for Fungal Skin Infections

Daktarin Intensive contains ketoconazole 2%, an antifungal medicine that treats various fungal skin infections. This topical treatment works directly on the affected area to eliminate fungal infections including athlete's foot, ringworm, and other skin conditions caused by fungi and yeasts.

The 15g tube provides sufficient treatment for most fungal skin infections when used as directed. Ketoconazole cream belongs to a group of medicines called azole antifungals, which are specifically designed to target and destroy fungal cells whilst leaving healthy skin cells unharmed.

How Ketoconazole Works Against Fungal Infections

Ketoconazole disrupts the cell membrane of fungi by blocking the production of ergosterol, an essential component that fungi need to survive. Without ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes damaged and the fungus dies, clearing your infection.

This targeted action means ketoconazole is effective against a broad spectrum of fungi and yeasts that commonly cause skin infections. The cream formulation allows the active ingredient to penetrate the skin layers where fungal infections typically develop.

Who Should Use Daktarin Intensive Cream

This antifungal cream is suitable for adults and children over 12 years who have confirmed or suspected fungal skin infections. You can find additional athletes foot and fungal infection treatments if you need alternative options or complementary care products.

Daktarin Intensive is particularly effective for treating:

  • Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) between toes and on foot surfaces
  • Ringworm infections on body areas (tinea corporis)
  • Fungal infections in skin folds and groin area
  • Yeast infections affecting the skin

Why Choose Daktarin Intensive for Fungal Treatment

Ketoconazole has been clinically proven to be effective against the most common fungi that cause skin infections. The 2% concentration provides therapeutic levels of the active ingredient whilst remaining suitable for topical application on sensitive skin areas.

The cream base helps the medicine stay in contact with the infected area for longer, improving treatment effectiveness. Unlike some antifungal treatments, ketoconazole works against both fungi and certain yeasts, making it a versatile choice for various skin infections.

Storage and Clinical Suitability Information

Store Daktarin Intensive below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use and ensure the medicine remains out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.

This medicine is suitable for most people, but you should not use it if you are allergic to ketoconazole or any other ingredients in the cream. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have liver problems, speak to your pharmacist before using this treatment.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply Daktarin Intensive Cream

Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before applying the cream. Apply a thin layer of Daktarin Intensive to the infected skin and surrounding area, extending slightly beyond the visible infection. Rub the cream in gently until it is absorbed into the skin.

Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the cream, unless you are treating a hand infection. Avoid getting the cream in your eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with clean water.

Treatment Duration and Frequency Guidelines

Apply the cream once or twice daily as directed by your pharmacist or as stated in the patient information leaflet. Continue treatment for at least one week after symptoms have cleared to prevent the infection from returning. Most fungal skin infections require 2-4 weeks of treatment.

If your symptoms do not improve after 4 weeks of treatment, or if they worsen during treatment, stop using the cream and consult your pharmacist or doctor. Some infections may require longer treatment or additional medical assessment.
