Daktarin Cream 2% - Effective Antifungal Treatment

You can rely on Daktarin cream to treat various fungal skin infections effectively. This topical antifungal medication contains miconazole nitrate, which works by disrupting the cell walls of fungi and yeasts that cause skin infections. The cream is suitable for treating athlete's foot, ringworm, and other common fungal conditions that affect your skin.

Each tube contains 15g of cream with 2% miconazole nitrate as the active ingredient. You apply this directly to the affected area of skin, where it penetrates to target the infection at its source. The cream formulation allows for easy application and absorption into your skin.

How Miconazole Nitrate Targets Fungal Infections

Miconazole nitrate belongs to a group of medicines called imidazole antifungals. When you apply the cream, it interferes with the production of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This action weakens the cell walls of fungi and yeasts, ultimately destroying them and clearing your infection.

The medication is effective against dermatophytes, yeasts, and some gram-positive bacteria. You'll typically notice improvement in your symptoms within a few days of starting treatment, though you should continue using the cream as directed to ensure complete clearance of the infection.

Who Should Consider This Antifungal Treatment

This miconazole cream suits adults and children over 2 years of age who have fungal skin infections. You can use it to treat various conditions affecting different areas of your body. For comprehensive foot care solutions, you might also explore our foot care collection for additional products that support healthy feet.

The cream is particularly suitable if you have:

  • Athlete's foot between your toes or on the soles of your feet
  • Ringworm infections on your body or scalp
  • Fungal infections in skin folds such as under your arms or groin
  • Yeast infections affecting your skin

Why Choose This Established Antifungal Formula

Miconazole has been used successfully to treat fungal infections for many years, with a well-established safety profile. The 2% concentration provides effective treatment whilst remaining gentle enough for regular use on your skin. The cream base helps to moisturise the affected area whilst delivering the active ingredient.

You can use this treatment with confidence, knowing that miconazole nitrate has been extensively studied and proven effective against the fungi that commonly cause skin infections. The cream formulation spreads easily and absorbs well, making it convenient for daily application.

Storage Requirements and Shelf Life

You should store your Daktarin cream below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use to maintain the cream's effectiveness. The medication should be kept out of reach and sight of children at all times.

Check the expiry date on the tube before use and do not use the cream after this date. Once opened, you should use the cream within the timeframe specified on the packaging. If you notice any changes in the cream's appearance, colour, or smell, do not use it and consult your pharmacist.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply Daktarin Cream Correctly

You should clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before applying the cream. Wash your hands before and after each application to prevent spreading the infection to other areas of your body or to other people. Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected skin and rub in gently until it disappears.

The cream should be applied to the infected area and approximately 2cm of surrounding healthy skin. This helps ensure you treat any fungal spores that may be present in the apparently unaffected skin around the visible infection. You should continue treatment for at least one week after all symptoms have cleared to prevent the infection from returning.

Treatment Duration and Frequency Guidelines

You typically need to apply the cream twice daily, usually in the morning and evening, unless your doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise. Most fungal skin infections require treatment for 2-6 weeks, depending on the type and severity of your infection. Athlete's foot infections may need longer treatment periods.

If your symptoms do not improve after 4 weeks of treatment, or if they worsen at any time, you should stop using the cream and consult your doctor or pharmacist. Some infections may require additional or alternative treatments, and persistent symptoms could indicate a different condition that needs medical assessment.
