Calprofen Children's Ibuprofen Suspension for Pain and Fever Relief

Calprofen Ibuprofen Oral Suspension provides effective relief from pain and fever in children aged 3 months and over. This orange-flavoured liquid medicine contains ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that helps reduce inflammation, lower temperature, and ease discomfort. The 100ml bottle comes with a measuring syringe to ensure accurate dosing for your child's weight and age.

You can use this children's ibuprofen suspension to treat various conditions including teething pain, earache, sore throat, headache, minor injuries, and symptoms of cold and flu. The liquid formulation makes it easier to administer to young children who cannot swallow tablets or capsules.

How Ibuprofen Works to Reduce Pain and Fever

Ibuprofen works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body that cause pain, inflammation, and fever. By reducing prostaglandin levels, ibuprofen helps lower your child's temperature when they have a fever and provides relief from pain and swelling.

The medicine typically starts working within 20-30 minutes of administration, with maximum effects usually reached within 1-2 hours. The pain-relieving and fever-reducing effects can last for up to 8 hours, though this may vary depending on your child's individual response to the medication.

Suitable for Children from 3 Months Old

This ibuprofen suspension is specifically formulated for children and can be given to babies from 3 months of age, provided they weigh at least 5kg. It's particularly useful for managing common childhood ailments and post-vaccination fever. For comprehensive care of childhood illnesses, you may also want to explore our baby and toddler collection for additional supportive treatments.

The medicine is suitable for children who experience:

  • Teething pain and discomfort
  • Fever following vaccinations
  • Cold and flu symptoms with raised temperature
  • Minor aches and pains from everyday bumps and scrapes

Sugar-Free Formula with Pleasant Orange Flavour

Calprofen is formulated without sugar, making it a tooth-friendly option for regular use when needed. The pleasant orange flavour helps ensure better acceptance by children, reducing the struggle often associated with giving medicine to young ones. The absence of sugar also means it won't contribute to tooth decay, which is particularly important for children who may need regular doses during illness.

The suspension remains stable and effective when stored correctly, maintaining its therapeutic properties throughout its shelf life. This ensures consistent dosing and reliable symptom relief each time you use it.

Proper Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store this medicine in a cool, dry place below 25°C and keep it out of reach and sight of children. Do not refrigerate the suspension as this may affect its consistency and effectiveness. Once opened, the medicine should be used within the timeframe specified on the packaging, typically within 6 months of first opening.

Always check the expiry date before use and dispose of any expired medicine safely through your local pharmacy's disposal service. Keep the original packaging and patient information leaflet for reference throughout the treatment period.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Dosage Instructions Based on Your Child's Weight and Age

Always use the measuring syringe provided to ensure accurate dosing. The dose is calculated based on your child's weight, with age ranges provided as a guide. For children aged 3-6 months weighing 5-7.6kg, give 2.5ml up to three times daily. Children aged 6-12 months weighing 7.7-10kg should receive 2.5ml up to four times daily. For children 1-4 years weighing 10-16kg, give 5ml up to three times daily. Children aged 4-9 years weighing 16-30kg can have 7.5ml up to three times daily, while those aged 9-12 years weighing 30-40kg should receive 10ml up to three times daily.

Administration Guidelines and Timing

Give doses at least 6-8 hours apart and do not exceed the stated dose or give more than three doses in 24 hours unless directed by a doctor. You can give the medicine with or after food to reduce the chance of stomach upset. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the medicine is properly mixed. If your child's symptoms persist for more than 3 days, or if they worsen, consult your doctor or pharmacist for further advice.
