Calpol Infant Suspension - Sugar Free Strawberry Relief

This calpol infant suspension provides effective fever and pain relief specifically formulated for babies and young children aged 2 months to 6 years. The sugar-free strawberry flavoured medicine contains paracetamol as the active ingredient, offering gentle yet reliable symptom management when your child feels unwell.

The colour-free formulation reduces the risk of staining and makes this infant paracetamol suitable for children with sensitivities to artificial colours. Each 100ml bottle comes with a measuring syringe to ensure accurate dosing for your child's age and weight.

How Paracetamol Works for Infant Fever Relief

Paracetamol works by blocking the production of prostaglandins in the brain, which are chemicals that cause pain and fever. This action helps reduce your child's temperature and provides relief from discomfort associated with teething, immunisations, and minor illnesses.

The liquid formulation allows for faster absorption compared to solid medicines, making it particularly suitable for young children who cannot swallow tablets. The medicine typically begins working within 30 minutes of administration.

Suitable Ages and Conditions for Treatment

This baby fever medicine is specifically designed for infants and children from 2 months old, making it one of the few paracetamol products licensed for such young patients. It effectively treats various childhood conditions that cause discomfort and elevated temperature.

The suspension is particularly helpful for managing:

  • Post-immunisation fever and discomfort
  • Teething pain and associated symptoms
  • Cold and flu symptoms in young children
  • General aches and pains in infants and toddlers

Parents often choose this formulation when seeking reliable relief for their baby and toddler health needs, particularly during the challenging early months when treatment options are limited.

Benefits of Sugar-Free and Colour-Free Formulation

The sugar-free formulation makes this children's paracetamol suspension suitable for regular use without contributing to tooth decay, an important consideration for developing teeth. This feature is particularly valuable for children who may need repeated doses during illness.

The absence of artificial colours eliminates potential allergens and reduces the risk of hyperactivity reactions that some children experience with coloured medicines. The natural strawberry flavouring makes the medicine more palatable for young patients while maintaining its therapeutic effectiveness.

Storage Requirements and Shelf Life

Store this sugar free calpol below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Once opened, the suspension maintains its effectiveness for the duration stated on the packaging when stored correctly.

Always check the expiry date before use and dispose of any remaining medicine safely after your child's illness has resolved. The measuring syringe should be cleaned after each use and stored with the bottle.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Correct Dosage Guidelines for Infants and Children

Always use the measuring syringe provided to ensure accurate dosing based on your child's age and weight. For infants aged 2-3 months weighing over 4kg, give 2.5ml up to four times daily, with at least 4 hours between doses. Children aged 3-6 months should receive 2.5ml, while those 6-24 months can have 5ml per dose.

For children aged 2-4 years, administer 7.5ml per dose, and for those 4-6 years, give 10ml per dose. Never exceed four doses in any 24-hour period, and always leave at least 4 hours between consecutive doses to prevent overdosing.

Administration Instructions and Safety Measures

Shake the bottle thoroughly before each use to ensure the medicine is properly mixed. Draw up the correct amount using the measuring syringe and administer directly into your child's mouth, aiming towards the inside of the cheek rather than the back of the throat.

You can give this medicine with or without food, and it may be mixed with a small amount of water or juice if your child finds the taste difficult. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the dose, you may repeat the same amount once. Do not exceed the recommended dose even if symptoms persist, and consult your pharmacist or doctor if fever continues beyond three days.
