Calpol Infant Suspension - Trusted Pain and Fever Relief

You can rely on Calpol infant suspension to provide effective relief from pain and fever in babies and young children. This strawberry-flavoured medicine contains paracetamol as its active ingredient, making it suitable for infants from 2 months of age. The liquid formulation ensures easy administration and accurate dosing for your child's comfort.

This medicine comes in a convenient 100ml bottle with a measuring syringe to help you give the correct dose. The pleasant strawberry taste makes it more acceptable to children, reducing the stress often associated with giving medicine to young ones.

How Paracetamol Works in Young Children

Paracetamol works by blocking the production of prostaglandins in your child's brain, which are chemicals that cause pain and fever. This action helps reduce your child's temperature when they have a fever and provides relief from mild to moderate pain such as teething discomfort, headaches, or post-vaccination soreness.

The liquid formulation allows for rapid absorption, typically providing relief within 30 minutes to an hour after administration. The effects usually last for 4-6 hours, making it suitable for regular dosing as needed throughout the day.

Suitable for Infants and Young Children

This infant paracetamol suspension is specifically formulated for babies and children who cannot yet take solid tablets. You can use it for various conditions that cause discomfort in your child, and it's particularly useful when other baby and toddler medicines may not be appropriate.

The medicine is suitable for:

  • Reducing fever associated with common childhood illnesses
  • Relieving teething pain and discomfort
  • Managing post-vaccination reactions
  • Treating mild to moderate pain from minor injuries or headaches

Sugar-Free Formulation Benefits

This Calpol formulation is sugar-free, which helps protect your child's developing teeth from decay. The absence of sugar makes it a more suitable choice for regular use when needed, without contributing to dental problems that can arise from frequent exposure to sugary medicines.

The sugar-free formula also makes it appropriate for children who need to avoid sugar for dietary reasons, whilst still providing the same effective pain and fever relief that parents trust.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

You should store this medicine below 25°C and keep it in the original packaging to protect it from light. Once opened, the suspension remains effective for the duration stated on the packaging, provided you store it correctly and replace the cap securely after each use.

Always check the expiry date before giving the medicine to your child, and dispose of any unused medicine safely after the expiry date or if it shows signs of deterioration such as changes in colour, smell, or consistency.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Correct Dosage for Infants and Children

You should always use the measuring syringe provided to ensure accurate dosing. The dose depends on your child's age and weight, and you must not exceed the recommended amount. For infants aged 2-3 months, you should only give this medicine on medical advice. For children aged 3 months to 6 years, follow the dosing instructions on the packaging carefully.

You can give doses every 4-6 hours as needed, but do not give more than 4 doses in any 24-hour period. If your child's symptoms persist for more than 3 days, or if they worsen, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist for further advice.

How to Administer the Suspension

You can give this medicine with or without food. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the medicine is properly mixed. Draw up the correct dose using the measuring syringe and administer it slowly into your child's mouth, allowing them time to swallow.

If your child spits out the medicine immediately after taking it, you may give the dose again. However, if they vomit within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, wait before giving another dose and seek advice if you're unsure about re-dosing.
