Accu-Chek Aviva Test Strips for Accurate Blood Glucose Monitoring

You can monitor your blood glucose levels effectively with these Accu-Chek Aviva test strips, designed specifically for use with the Accu-Chek Aviva blood glucose meter. Each pack contains 50 individual test strips that provide reliable readings to help you manage your diabetes effectively. These strips use advanced biosensor technology to deliver accurate results within seconds of applying your blood sample.

The strips are individually foil-wrapped to maintain their stability and accuracy until you're ready to use them. You'll find comprehensive diabetes monitoring solutions that work together to support your daily glucose management routine.

How Blood Glucose Test Strips Work

When you apply a small drop of blood to the test strip, enzymes within the strip react with glucose in your blood sample. This reaction creates an electrical current that the Accu-Chek Aviva meter measures and converts into a blood glucose reading displayed on the screen.

The entire process takes approximately 5 seconds from sample application to result display. You only need a tiny blood sample of 0.6 microlitres, which means less discomfort when testing and easier sample collection from alternative testing sites when recommended by your healthcare provider.

Who Should Use Diabetic Test Strips

These diabetes testing strips are suitable for people with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who need to monitor their blood glucose levels regularly. Your healthcare provider will advise you on how frequently you should test based on your individual treatment plan and medication regimen.

The strips are particularly beneficial for people who:

  • Take insulin or other glucose-lowering medications
  • Experience frequent blood sugar fluctuations
  • Are adjusting their diabetes management plan
  • Need to monitor glucose levels during illness or stress

Why Choose Individually Wrapped Test Strips

Each Accu-Chek strip comes individually sealed in foil packaging to protect it from moisture, light, and temperature variations that could affect accuracy. This packaging system ensures each strip maintains its effectiveness until the moment you use it, unlike vial-packed strips that can degrade once the container is opened.

The individual wrapping also makes the strips more portable and convenient for testing when you're away from home, as you can carry just the number of strips you need without exposing unused strips to environmental factors.

Storage and Handling Requirements

You should store your test strips in their original packaging at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Don't refrigerate the strips or expose them to extreme temperatures, as this can affect their accuracy. Check the expiration date before use and never use expired strips, as they may provide inaccurate readings.

Handle each strip carefully and avoid touching the yellow test area, as oils from your skin can interfere with the test results. Use each strip immediately after removing it from its foil wrapper.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Use Your Blood Glucose Test Strips

Insert one test strip into your Accu-Chek Aviva meter with the yellow end facing into the meter until it clicks into place. The meter will turn on automatically and display a blood drop symbol when it's ready for your sample.

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, then dry them completely before testing. Use your lancing device to obtain a small blood sample from the side of your fingertip or alternative site as recommended by your healthcare provider.

Applying Your Blood Sample

Touch the yellow area of the test strip to the drop of blood and allow the strip to draw the sample automatically. You don't need to squeeze or apply pressure - the strip will fill by capillary action. Your result will appear on the meter screen within 5 seconds.

Record your result in your diabetes logbook or smartphone app as recommended by your healthcare team. Remove and dispose of the used test strip safely in your household waste, and wash your hands again after testing.

Understanding Test Strip Limitations and Considerations

Like all medical devices, Accu-Chek Aviva test strips can occasionally provide inaccurate results, although this is uncommon when used correctly. Most issues arise from improper storage, expired strips, or user error rather than device malfunction. You can find additional electrical health and diagnostic equipment to support your monitoring routine.

Certain factors may affect the accuracy of your blood glucose readings and should be discussed with your healthcare provider.

Factors that may influence test results include:

  • Dehydration or severe illness
  • Very high or very low haematocrit levels
  • Severe hypotension or shock
  • Testing at altitudes above 3,048 metres
  • Extremely high triglyceride levels
  • Severe anaemia
  • Oxygen therapy interference
  • Medication interactions with test chemistry
  • Insufficient blood sample size
  • Contaminated testing site
  • Damaged or expired test strips
  • Meter calibration issues

If you experience these or any other concerns about your test results, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting device issues please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
