After injection, apply gentle pressure with a clean cotton pad but avoid rubbing the area, which can disperse the medication and increase irritation.

Optimal Injection Site Rotation Schedule

Divide your abdomen into four quadrants and alternate between them weekly, avoiding the area within 5cm of your navel. For thigh injections, use the front and outer portions of the upper leg, rotating between left and right. If using your upper arm, you'll need assistance to reach the correct area — the outer back portion of the upper arm where sufficient subcutaneous tissue exists.

Distinguishing Normal Reactions from Complications

Normal reactions typically peak within 6-12 hours post-injection and gradually improve over 2-3 days. Any reaction that intensifies after 24 hours, produces pus or discharge, or causes systemic symptoms like fever or malaise requires clinical evaluation. Keep a photo record of unusual reactions to show your prescriber during follow-up consultations.

Mounjaro Injection Site Side Effects Compared to Other GLP-1 Treatments

Injection site reaction rates for Mounjaro are comparable to other GLP-1 receptor agonists licensed in the UK. Maintain skin hydration with regular moisturising between injections, as healthy supple skin tolerates needle puncture better than dry or irritated skin. Avoid injecting through scarred areas, tattoos, or skin with active conditions like eczema or psoriasis, as these areas may show increased reaction rates or altered medication absorption.
