Xailin Night Eye Ointment for Overnight Dry Eye Relief

Xailin Night is a preservative-free night eye ointment designed to provide long-lasting lubrication for your eyes whilst you sleep. This 5g tube contains a smooth, clear ointment that forms a protective barrier over the eye surface, helping to maintain moisture levels throughout the night when natural tear production decreases.

The ointment's thicker consistency compared to eye drops makes it ideal for overnight use, as it remains on the eye surface for extended periods without washing away. This sustained contact helps to restore the natural tear film and provides relief from the discomfort associated with dry, irritated eyes.

How Xailin Night Works to Restore Eye Moisture

The ointment works by supplementing your natural tear film with lubricating ingredients that mimic the properties of healthy tears. When applied to the eye, it spreads across the surface to create a smooth, protective layer that prevents moisture loss and reduces friction between the eyelid and eye surface.

During sleep, your eyes produce fewer tears and blink less frequently, which can lead to increased dryness and irritation upon waking. Xailin Night compensates for this natural reduction in tear production by providing continuous lubrication throughout the night, helping you wake with more comfortable eyes.

Who Should Consider Using This Eye Ointment

This ointment is suitable for adults and children who experience dry eyes, particularly those whose symptoms worsen overnight or upon waking. It's especially beneficial for people whose dry eye symptoms interfere with sleep quality or cause morning discomfort.

Xailin Night may be particularly helpful for:

  • People with chronic dry eye syndrome requiring overnight relief
  • Those who wake with gritty, uncomfortable eyes
  • Contact lens wearers experiencing overnight dryness
  • Individuals in dry environments or using heating systems

The ointment is also suitable for people who find eye drops insufficient for overnight protection, as many patients find our eye care products work better in ointment form for extended relief.

Why Choose a Preservative-Free Formula

Xailin Night is formulated without preservatives, making it gentler on sensitive eyes and suitable for frequent use. Preservatives in eye products can sometimes cause irritation or allergic reactions, particularly with regular application or in people with already sensitive eyes.

The preservative-free formulation reduces the risk of additional irritation whilst maintaining the product's effectiveness. This makes it appropriate for long-term use and for people who may be sensitive to the preservatives commonly found in other eye treatments.

Storage and Clinical Suitability Information

Store Xailin Night at room temperature and use within 28 days of first opening the tube. The single-use nature of the preservative-free formula means each tube should be discarded after this period to maintain sterility and effectiveness.

This product is suitable for use alongside other eye treatments, though you should allow at least 15 minutes between applying different eye medications. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply Xailin Night Eye Ointment

Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the tube. Tilt your head back slightly and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Squeeze a small amount of ointment (approximately 1cm ribbon) into this pocket, being careful not to touch the tip of the tube to your eye or eyelid.

Close your eye gently and blink a few times to help distribute the ointment across the eye surface. The ointment may cause temporary blurred vision, which is normal and will clear as the product spreads.

When and How Often to Use This Treatment

Apply Xailin Night once daily before bedtime, or as directed by your healthcare professional. The timing is important as the ointment's thicker consistency can cause temporary vision blurring, making it unsuitable for daytime activities requiring clear sight.

If you need to use the ointment more frequently than once daily, consult your pharmacist or doctor for guidance. Replace the cap immediately after use and ensure the tube tip remains clean to prevent contamination.

Understanding Potential Side Effects of Eye Ointments

Like all medicines, Xailin Night Eye Ointment can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most people find this treatment well-tolerated, particularly due to its preservative-free formulation which reduces the likelihood of sensitivity reactions compared to other creams and ointments .

The most commonly reported side effects are usually mild and temporary, typically occurring shortly after application. These effects often diminish as your eyes adjust to the treatment.

Possible side effects may include:

  • Temporary blurred vision immediately after application
  • Mild eye irritation or stinging sensation
  • Increased tear production
  • Feeling of something in the eye
  • Temporary sensitivity to light
  • Eyelid swelling or redness
  • Crusting around the eyelashes upon waking
  • Allergic reactions such as itching or rash around the eyes

If you experience these or any other side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
