Numark Hydrocolloid Blister Plasters Medium for Effective Wound Protection

You can rely on these medium-sized hydrocolloid blister plasters to provide cushioned protection for painful blisters on your feet and hands. Each plaster creates a moist healing environment that helps your skin repair itself naturally whilst shielding the affected area from further friction and contamination.

The waterproof design allows you to continue with daily activities including showering and light exercise without compromising the protective seal. These plasters stay securely in place for several days, reducing the need for frequent changes that could disrupt the healing process.

How Hydrocolloid Technology Accelerates Blister Healing

The hydrocolloid material absorbs fluid from your blister whilst maintaining optimal moisture levels for tissue repair. This creates a gel-like cushion that reduces pressure and pain when walking or moving the affected area.

Unlike traditional plasters, the hydrocolloid formula doesn't stick to the wound bed, allowing for comfortable removal without disrupting newly formed skin. The breathable outer layer prevents bacterial contamination whilst allowing excess moisture to evaporate gradually. You'll find these particularly effective for managing first aid situations involving friction blisters from new shoes or repetitive activities.

Suitable Applications for Medium-Sized Blister Protection

These medium plasters work well for blisters measuring up to 2cm in diameter, making them ideal for common locations such as heels, toes, and finger joints. You can use them on both intact and burst blisters, though intact blisters generally heal more quickly.

The plasters are particularly beneficial for:

  • Friction blisters from ill-fitting footwear or sports activities
  • Minor burns that have formed blisters
  • Pressure sores in early stages
  • Post-surgical wound protection where appropriate

Why Choose Hydrocolloid Over Traditional Plasters

Traditional fabric plasters can stick to healing tissue and cause pain during removal, potentially reopening wounds. Hydrocolloid technology eliminates this problem by forming a protective gel barrier that doesn't adhere to the wound surface.

The extended wear time means fewer dressing changes, reducing infection risk and allowing uninterrupted healing. You'll also experience better pain relief due to the cushioning effect of the hydrocolloid gel formation.

Storage and Shelf Life Considerations

Store your plasters in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain the adhesive properties and hydrocolloid effectiveness. Each individually wrapped plaster remains sterile until opened, with a typical shelf life of several years when stored correctly.

Check the packaging for specific expiry dates and avoid using plasters that show signs of packaging damage or adhesive deterioration.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

Application Instructions for Optimal Blister Protection

Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before application, removing any dirt or debris that could interfere with adhesion. Remove the protective backing from the plaster and position it centrally over the blister, ensuring the hydrocolloid pad covers the entire affected area with some overlap onto healthy skin.

Press firmly around the edges to create a secure seal, smoothing out any air bubbles that might compromise the waterproof barrier. The plaster should feel comfortable and not restrict normal movement of the affected digit or limb.

When and How to Change Your Hydrocolloid Plaster

Leave the plaster in place for up to seven days unless it becomes loose, damaged, or shows signs of infection such as increased redness, warmth, or pus formation. The hydrocolloid material will gradually turn white or yellow as it absorbs fluid, which is normal and indicates the healing process is progressing.

Remove the plaster gently by lifting one corner and peeling slowly parallel to the skin surface. If resistance is felt, dampen the edges with warm water to soften the adhesive. Clean the healed area gently and assess whether continued protection is needed.

Potential Reactions and Safety Information

Like all medicines, Numark Hydrocolloid Blister Plasters Medium can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most people tolerate hydrocolloid dressings well, but some individuals may develop sensitivity reactions to the adhesive or hydrocolloid components. If you have sensitive skin or known allergies to medical adhesives, consider testing on a small area first or exploring alternative skin care options.

The most commonly reported side effects include mild skin irritation around the plaster edges and temporary redness after removal. These reactions typically resolve within a few hours of discontinuing use.

Known side effects may include:

  • Contact dermatitis or allergic skin reactions
  • Skin maceration from prolonged moisture exposure
  • Temporary skin discolouration at application site
  • Mild burning or stinging sensation during application
  • Increased wound drainage initially
  • Skin tears upon removal if not done carefully
  • Secondary bacterial infection if used on contaminated wounds
  • Delayed healing in individuals with compromised circulation

If you experience these or any other side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
