Mepore Film & Pad 9 x 10cm Waterproof Wound Dressing

You can protect your wounds effectively with this transparent film dressing that combines a sterile absorbent pad with a waterproof adhesive border. The 9 x 10cm size provides suitable coverage for medium-sized wounds, surgical sites, and post-operative care. Each pack contains 30 individual sterile dressings, making it convenient for ongoing wound management at home or in clinical settings.

This waterproof wound dressing allows you to shower and bathe whilst keeping your wound dry and protected. The transparent film enables visual monitoring of the wound healing process without removing the dressing unnecessarily.

How This Adhesive Wound Pad Works

The dressing features a non-adherent wound contact layer that prevents sticking to the wound bed, reducing pain during dressing changes. The absorbent pad draws moisture away from the wound whilst the waterproof film barrier prevents external contamination from water and bacteria.

The gentle adhesive border secures the dressing in place without causing skin irritation. This design promotes optimal wound healing conditions by maintaining appropriate moisture levels whilst protecting against infection.

Who Can Use These Sterile Dressing Pads

These dressings are suitable for you if you have clean, low to moderately exuding wounds. They work well for post-surgical care, minor cuts, abrasions, and superficial burns. Healthcare professionals often recommend them for patients requiring first aid supplies for ongoing wound care.

The dressings are appropriate for:

  • Post-operative wound protection
  • Minor surgical procedures
  • Superficial cuts and grazes
  • Areas requiring waterproof protection

Why Choose Transparent Film Protection

The transparent design allows you to monitor your wound's healing progress without frequent dressing changes. This reduces the risk of introducing bacteria and minimises disruption to the healing process. The waterproof barrier means you can maintain normal hygiene routines whilst protecting your wound.

The breathable film allows oxygen and water vapour to pass through whilst blocking bacteria and liquid water. This creates an optimal healing environment that supports natural wound repair processes.

Clinical Suitability and Storage Requirements

You should store these dressings in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain their sterility and adhesive properties. Each dressing is individually wrapped to ensure sterility until use. Check the expiry date before application and do not use if the packaging is damaged.

These dressings are suitable for use on intact skin around wound sites. Avoid using on infected wounds or areas with known sensitivity to adhesive materials without consulting a healthcare professional first.

This product is a medicine. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking other medicines.

How to Apply Your Post-Surgical Dressing

You should clean and dry the wound area thoroughly before application. Remove the dressing from its sterile packaging and peel away the protective backing. Position the absorbent pad directly over the wound, ensuring it covers the entire wound area with some overlap onto healthy skin.

Press the adhesive border firmly onto clean, dry skin, working from the centre outwards to eliminate air bubbles. Smooth down all edges to ensure a secure seal around the wound perimeter.

When to Change Your Transparent Film Dressing

You should change the dressing when it becomes saturated with wound fluid, loses its adhesion, or shows signs of lifting at the edges. Typically, you can leave the dressing in place for several days, depending on the amount of wound drainage. Remove the dressing carefully by lifting one corner and peeling back slowly whilst supporting the surrounding skin.

Change the dressing immediately if you notice signs of infection such as increased redness, swelling, warmth, or unusual discharge from the wound area.

Possible Reactions to Adhesive Dressings

Like all medicines, Mepore Film & Pad can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Some people may develop sensitivity reactions to the adhesive components, particularly with prolonged use or if you have sensitive skin conditions .

The most common side effects involve local skin reactions where the adhesive contacts your skin. These reactions are usually mild and resolve after removing the dressing.

Known side effects may include:

  • Skin redness around the dressing edges
  • Mild itching or irritation
  • Contact dermatitis from adhesive sensitivity
  • Skin maceration from prolonged moisture exposure
  • Allergic reactions in sensitive individuals
  • Skin stripping when removing the dressing
  • Blistering in very sensitive skin
  • Localised swelling around adhesive areas

If you experience these or any other side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting side effects please see the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
